Karachi: 9 months pregnant Shaista Umer, lost her life due to mismanagement during a surgery at the hands of Dr. Shahnaz Hussaini of Liaqat National Hospital on 21st June.

Shaista Omer, mother of three, was 9 months pregnant with the delivery due on the 24th June 2015. The case was of a baby with a cord around the neck that required a C-section as recommended by her consultant doctor, Dr. Shahnaz Hussaini.

She felt pain in the early morning of 21st June and got admitted at the hospital at 10.45 am. Dr. Shahnaz Akbar Hussaini, a gynecologist at Liaqat National Hospital, treated her case haphazardly and severed the complications. The patient eventually died due to profuse bleeding.

Shaista’s husband, Umer, hysterically informed that that the doctor was trying to flee the scene with her bag on her shoulder but he had urged her to wait until the patient recover.

Dr. Shahnaz forcefully stayed in the ICU where doctors tried to get Shasta’s heart beat back. She was put on a ventilator and when Omer went to ICU to see her, the scene was unimaginable.

“There was blood everywhere and Shaista’s lower body part was dripping with blood. It was then I realized that Shaista had been mismanaged.”

On protesting, he was told that his wife was no more. “The doctors told that she had died during the surgery,” he reported tearfully, “We completely hold Dr. Shahnaz and team of Liaqat National Hospital , lead by Dr. Farha, responsible for my wife’s demise. She was kept at the hospital for more than 9 hours without proper attention despite knowing it was a regular case of C-section.

Moreover, Umer stated that he had repeatedly requested Dr. Shahnaz, who negligently arrived when it was too late for Shaista.

This carelessness from Dr. Shahnaz Hussaini meant that patient was left in the hands of junior doctors who sabotaged the case.

The demised family has pleaded the relevant authorities to terminate the license of Dr. Shahnaz and rusticate Dr. Farha, ensuring both are not allowed to conduct medicine for their entire career.

It is bad that politicians are sucking the life out of people and that lawyers are being assholes now even doctors are being bitches? What the hell is wrong...So much lawlessness :(

Below is the complete incident of Shasta Omer a victim of Dr. Shehnaz Hussaini and Liaquat National Hospital for those who want to know the details:

Shaista Omer was 9 months pregnant with the delivery due on the 24th June 2015. The case was of a baby with a cord around the neck that required a C-section as recommended by her consultant doctor, Dr. Shahnaz Hussaini.

She felt pains in the early morning of 21st June and got admitted to the hospital at 10.45 am. On arrival she was taken to the labor room and the husband, Omer ul Islam submitted all the historical files, reports and diagnostics to the team of LNH and requested the on-ground staff to urgently call the gynecologist (Dr. Shahnaz) since the case required immediate attention.

To the family’s grief Shahnaz Hussaini did not respond throughout the next several hours!

At around 2:00 pm and 3hrs being passed, Shaista continued to have severe pains. Several calls and messages meanwhile were sent to Dr. Shahnaz Hussaini but she did not reply. The patient insisted for Dr. Shahnaz as she was not feeling well but the hospital nor the doctor did not bother to respond. The family once again dropped a message on Dr. Shahnaz cell at 2:09 stating the residents Dr. Farah and the team are taking the case lightly and being extremely careless. But no one responded! (Below is the snap of the messages sent to Shahnaz Hussaini by the husband)

Later when pain became unbearable the patient requested for an epidural anaesthesia to get some relief. Even that was given at around 4:00 pm after a delay of 1hr. The husband was repeatedly requesting the hospital for cesarean but the hospital staff kept on saying that they know what we are doing!

At around 5:00 pm the husband tried to get into the labor room to see the condition of patient but was not allowed. Why? There must’ve been something wrong because despite of multiple requests he was not allowed to see the patient. Why? In most cases of pregnancy the husband is allowed to be with the wife but in this case the hospital personnel were not allowing it!

Shehnaz Hussaini was still not in the picture? What was she doing? Preparing for Iftar or relaxing in her AC room due to the hot weather?

Time was passing by and no one was allowed in the labor room, Allah knows what they were doing with the patient. At around 7:00 pm just before Iftar the husband shouted outside the labor room to call another doctor but they refused and said that this is Dr. Shahnaz Hussaini's case and she will only come after Iftar.

At 8:40 pm someone came to the husband requesting him to sign a document as there was an emergency with the patient and the heart beat of the baby was getting low. We asked them where is Shahnaz Hussaini and they told us now she is on her way to the hospital to do the surgery.

Dr. Shahnaz Hussaini came after 10 hrs when the patient was already exhausted with multiple complications. Why?

The patient was taken into Operation Theater at 8:45 pm after several hours of pain. What happened inside the theatre only Allah knows better. The baby boy was delivered at exactly 9:00 pm but with complications (exactly within 15 min when the patient was taken into O.T).

The husband was busy sorting out the formalities for the ventilator for his new born when Shahnaz Hussaini called him at around 9:30 pm. Please note this is the first time when the husband interacts with Shahnaz Hussaini. She told him in person that we will keep the patient in ICU for 1 day at least due to some complications but did not mention the seriousness of Shaista’s condition. In fact she was very relaxed and went back in to O.T preparing to leave the Liaquat National premises.

To the family’s shock they realized the severity of situation when they saw Shaista unconscious, pale, eyes staring in the upward direction and cotton surrounding her full of blood while she was moved from O.T to ICU. The family stared at each other wondering what have these doctors done to Shaista.

After 5 min Dr. Shahnaz Hussaini came out from O.T with her bag on her shoulder preparing to leave the hospital saying that patient is shifted in ICU and she will be fine. We stopped Dr. Shahnaz Hussaini and told her to go in ICU and wait till the patient recovers.

Dr. Shahnaz forcefully stayed in the ICU where doctors tried to get Shasta's heart beat back. She was put on a ventilator and when Omer went to ICU to see her the scene was un-imaginable. He saw profuse quantities of blood everywhere and Shaista’s lower part of the body dripping with blood. He realized that the case has been mis-managed. He yelled at the doctor and asked her about Shaista’s state where she told him that she is no more! We suspect that she had died during the surgery and Dr. Shahnaz Hussaini was trying to flee the scene earlier.

We completely hold Dr. Shahnaz and team of Liaqat National Hospital (lead by Dr. Farha) solely responsible for Shaista Omer’s demise. The patient was there at the hospital for more than 9 hours without proper attention despite knowing it was a regular case of C-section and delaying the surgery which ultimately resulted in her death. Repeated request for Dr. Shahnaz’s presence were made by the patient and the family and she did not respond nor came to the hospital till the inevitable was about to happen. This negligence from Dr. Shahnaz Hussaini meant that patient was left in the hands of junior doctors who sabotaged the case.

We request the relevant authorities to terminate the license of Dr. Shahnaz and rusticate Dr. Farha ensuring both are not allowed to conduct medicine for their entire career. Furthermore, action should also be taken on criminal grounds against the doctor and hospital since their negligence resulted in the loss of an innocent life and complete devastation of a family. We demand the strictest action to be taken by the courts of Pakistan to ensure that incidents like these do not happen again and lives and families are saved from these criminals.

They were planning on keeping a murdered (yea that is all that can be said about this) woman in ICU for 1 day and pretending that she will be fine when she was already dead? WTH? I hope these ladies would face something similar! Disgusting....Really saddening/ shocking and disgusting...

@S.U.R.B. @Emmie @Manticore @chauvunist how can one who takes an oath behave like a total bitch?

Karma does not work in Pakistan.
You have no idea...it works in the weirdest and most unexpected ways...

INSHALLAH the doa of one who has been wronged doesnt have a veil and ALLAH sees and knows all...the life on the earth is temporary so if temporary justice is too small for her crime she will get permanent justice

Sure, I have no idea. Thanks for letting me know that.

I wouldnt blame anyone if that bitch is lynched in broad daylight in front of the police station....Coz I dont see any court gonna do any shit

I wouldn't go that far reading about a facebook post. As in: One side of the story. This is a country of 200 million people with inadequate medical staff. All our doctors are not with "doctors without borders" but "doctors trying to hop the borders". Whoever is left is actually trying to work for the country or just too lazy or incapable to be considered abroad.

Even if the guilty,,,most probably she wud go scott free,,,n blame it on the anaesthesiologist

figure of speech not literally :undecided:

I was reading the forum and people were saying it made me sad, angry etc . I say whats the use after yet another case like this . We should be focusing on solutions .
For me I think the young doctors protesting and going on strike is against the oath a doctor takes. Their lisence should be revoked and put out of govt job.
Seriously doctors and proffessors- teachers should be allowed only one job ie either govt job or private job . In case of teachers the teacher doesnt teach properly and you have to go for tuition and in case of doctors they dont see you properly in govt job and ask you to go for private treatment.
I know a doctor who works for an ngo and has a govt job as well at the same time . Do what does he do, he gies to ngo and a mk mka with authorites like ghost dr ( from ghost schools)
