Anyhow the big disparities in data from a site to another is most probably due to the disparity of query variables. One can change these variables to any degree he choses, and combine them in any manner of his choosing too. All these sites use some statistics methods, but the data itself can be manipulated to be neutral or the lean to any side if queries are carefully planned and executed.
So, in brief, the Information provided in this thread based on some method of classification should be taken lightly, and not as a serious reference. The basis of it is some raw data, but in general most of the countries - apart from the Western ones - do not provide real time data.

Actually, I would indeed consider Merkava IV an M1A2 and Leo2A6 equivalent. And Mk III an M1A1 equivalent.

You seem to be under the impression/delusion that armor protection is about not getting destroyed. It isn't (primarily). Rather, it is about keeping the highly trained and therefor expensive and not easily replaced tank crews alive. By comparision, equipment itself is cheap.
