Ten people died and 13 more were injured as a bus was shelled in the eastern Donetsk region, Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said. Denis Pushilin, Donetsk People’s Republic representative at Minsk talks, said the attack may have been staged by Kiev.

The incident took place near a Ukrainian military checkpoint near the town of Volnovakha on Tuesday, the spokesman for the Interior Ministry in the Donetsk region, Vyacheslav Ambroskin, said. He posted the information on his Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the regional administration reported that 18 people had been injured.

Ambroskin said the checkpoint was shelled from the direction of the town of Dokuchaevsk, which is under the control of local militia forces. The town of Volnovakha is under Kiev’s control.

Ukraine’s Donetsk Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the shelling, qualifying the case as a terrorist act, according to its press service. It said that the attack was “targeted" and “carried out by a Grad multiple rocket launcher using over 40 shells.”

The site of the shelling was “deep in Kiev-controlled territory” and the Donetsk militia could not have reached it, the spokesman for the DNR People’s Council, Andrey Purgin, told Donetsk media.

“We don’t have the capability to shell this checkpoint either from the side of Telmanovo or Elenovka. The Ukrainian side has to figure out what has happened deep in its territory. It’s very far from the contact line,” Purgin said.

Denis Pushilin also told RT that the shelling occurred near Volnovakha at a Ukrainian army checkpoint that is "out of the operational range of the artillery of our militia."

“I don’t rule out the possibility that [the attack] could be the Ukrainian army’s provocation, to attempt to put the blame for what has happened on local militia,” Pushilin said. He added that according to his data the closest DNR artillery crew was stationed 50 kilometers from the site, which makes it technically impossible for the local militia to have shelled it.

The DNR Foreign Ministry called for an independent investigation into the incident in a statement published on its website.

“The tragedy took place in the area of Bugas near Volnovakha town. This region is located out of the operational range of artillery and multiple rocket launchers of the DNR army,” the ministry’s statement said.

The ministry said that “the most probable explanation of the incident is that the Ukrainian army or the representatives of the nationalist armed groups like DUK or Right Sector shelled the bus.”

Following several weeks of calm there was hope that peace talks between Kiev and the eastern self-proclaimed republics were bearing fruit. However, after the winter holidays the conflict between local militia and Ukraine’s army stationed in the east has reignited, Donetsk officials say.

About 7,500 people were affected after a shell hit a gas pipeline in the Kievsky district of Donetsk on Monday.

Over 40 people have been killed and 120 wounded in shelling in the period January 1-12, Russia’s Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin was quoted as saying by Tass news agency. He said Donetsk and its suburbs were shelled by Grad and Uragan multiple rocket launchers, self-propelled artillery Akatsiya and Gvozdika and other heavy weaponry during this period.

Markin said that more than 4,800 people have died in the military operation in eastern Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict last April.

Pushilin earlier Tuesday warned that the Ukrainian army could launch an offensive“any second”as troops have been massing near the border of the self-proclaimed republics.

He added that the National Guard battalion Sich, stationed in a Donetsk suburb, has been “provoking us with fire,” while the commander of the battalion said he refused to follow Kiev’s orders.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday that there was information that Kiev forces were getting ready for an assault.

"We have rather worrisome information which we are checking right now that Ukrainian law enforcement is getting ready for another attempt to settle problem by force in the near future. It will be a catastrophe," Lavrov said at a meeting with his Latvian counterpart in Moscow.

Donetsk (Ukraine) (AFP) - Eleven Ukrainian civilians were killed and nearly 20 injured on Tuesday when a long-range Grad rocket apparently fired by pro-Russian insurgents hit an intercity bus in the separatist east.

Local police said the rocket appeared to have gone astray after being aimed by the gunmen at a checkpoint set up by government soldiers on the main highway connecting the rebel stronghold of Donetsk with Ukraine's southeastern coast on the Sea of Azov.

The incident was the deadliest attack on civilians since the rival sides signed a much-maligned September 5 ceasefire that only partially stemmed the fighting and did little to resolve the insurgents' independence claims.

Tuesday's strike also damaged Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's efforts to set up a peace summit where his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin could personally sign a truce to try to end the ex-Soviet republic's nine-month war.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel -- the West's main mediator in Europe's deadliest conflict since the Balkan wars of the 1990s -- argues that such a meeting would be premature with violence still raging daily across Ukraine's Russian-speaking rustbelt.

Diplomatic talks in Berlin on Monday confirmed that no summit would be held on the crisis in the short term.

Both Ukrainian military and regional police told AFP that the death toll from Tuesday's incident included seven women and four men.

The local adminstration said 17 others had been hospitalised near the town of Volnovakha where the bus was hit 35 kilometres (22 miles) southwest of Donetsk.

Donetsk regional interior ministry department chief Vyacheslav Abroskin said the rocket appeared to have gone astray after being fired at a Ukrainian military checkpoint.

"It was a direct hit on an intercity bus," Abroskin told AFP by telephone.

And in the end, who made the Grad rocket both side were using? The Russian.

Hence, i can say We should blame the Russian regardless

Here is a quote on the company history on Grad

The Multiple Rocket Launcher Systems are the powerful and prospective weapon known since the 2nd World War. For the first time Multiple Rocket Launcher Systems, called at the time "Katioushas", were successfully employed 14 July 1941 near the Byelorussian town of Orsha. It was the first generation of MRLSs. Evolving the traditions of rocket projectiles design, beginning from the end of the 50es FSUE "Splav" SRPA" develops the new generations of MLRSs. Today these are the famous "Grad", "Uragan" and "Smerch".

Some particular words must be said about the 9K51 "Grad" MRLS (caliber 122 mm, range of fire 20 km) which is the most popular system all over the world. It was developed in 1963 by a group of Russian designers headed by a gifted designer-in-chief Alexander Ganichev and then manufactured by Russian military enterprises.

The second MRLS developed in Russia, the 9K57 "Uragan" (rocket projectile caliber 220 mm), has the range of fire of up to 35 km. For the "Uragan" system for the first time in the world was developed the rocket projectile fitted with cluster warhead with fragmentation submunitions.
The third class of MRLSs, which is the latter one, includes the Russian "Smerch" system (caliber 300 mm, range of fire of up to 90 km) which uses the rocket projectiles provided with on-board control-system unit. It resulted in 3-folds reduction of rocket projectiles dispersion along with the 2-folds enhancement of consistency of fire. The experience accumulated during developments of MRLSs for the Land Forces allowed the development of fundamentally new systems for the Navy. These are the "Damba", "Ogon" systems and the "Udav" (designed to engage torpedoes) and "RPK-8" (designed to engage submarines) systems which has no match in the world. Altogether, the Enterprise has developed 48 types of rocket projectiles for different purposes. Together with the FSUE "Splav" SRPA", which is the head enterprise in development of weaponry, worked teams of many enterprises assigned for different trends (as launcher vehicles, transporter-loaders, fuzes, powder charges, ignition agents etc.). The scientific and technological potential accumulated by these enterprises promotes the development of new models of MRLSs meeting the world standards.

So are you now saying their company is lying about that too?

Ukrainians are Little Russians. Hitler called Ukrainians Russians anyway :p:

  • Ukrainians are Little Russians. Hitler called Ukrainians Russians anyway :p:

We are not talking about Hilter, we are talking about
a company in Russia called their designer Russian, again, please do google before you post.
If a product is made in a company in Russia, designed by Russian, then they are Russian Product, so now can you show me anything in Grad thats Ukrainian beside they are using it too?

Withness at ground heard sounds coming from west-land occupied by Ukraine.
People returning from Donetck to Maruipol via same route did not see even a single trace from neither MLRS rockets nor artilerry shells.
People in the bus looked like dead from bullets to me,saw enough pictures unfortunately of civilians murdered from artilery fire by Ukr army.
But the case was used from "freedom loving" USA stooges in Kiev to further limit any movement between Donbas and rest of fail country of Ukraine.

Doesn't matter where the Grads were made. Ukrainians used Grads. They are wrongdoers.

So, by ur logic, China use grad too, then China is also a wrongdoer too?
