The Tejas program is making steady progress. I would rather see 15 squadrons of Tejas over F16s/ Gripens. The MK1A and MK 2 are worth investing in. The IAF should move towards a capable Indian platform(as close to 100% Indian made as possible). An upgrded Kaveri made with French help, and an...
If the IAF has money for 100 predator drones, it can afford more Rafales. I would rather see Rafales made in India vs F16s or Gripens. It is far more capable, and versatile. It could also meet they Navy requirement to replace the Mig 29s which are underperforming. Perhaps Dassault could also...
I am hoping that this fighter is chosen instead of the F18, F16, or Gripen. It is far more capable. Hopefuly TOT can be arranged for a make in India solution. Once enough Rafales are made, the line could be turned toward the AMCA.
My vision of the IAF fighter inventory would look like this:

The LAC is going to be militarized just like the LOC. IMHO this is overdue. More troops, infrastrucure, and modern equipment is sorely required. New theater commands, and a new central command will also be required. India is making the right moves, just far too slow for my liking. Thankfully...
Here are some fixes the rifle will need in order to be inducted:
Ambi cocking mechanism
Ambi Safety/ fire selector
A magazine that isnt so difficult to seat in the mag housing
Compatability with existing OFB 40mm UBGL
If this can be done ASAP, this rifle might be able to do well the trials...
Pics are up. It is an INSAS Excalibur in 7.62x51. Black with P rails, iron sights, folding butt stock. Nothing special but if it passes trials it should be inducted over foriegn designs.
Mods might as well merge this with the existing thread please.
This appears to be an INSAS EXCALIBUR in 7.62x .51 NATO. If it works, it should be inducted. 5.56 is no longer combat effective for the IA's current battlespace.
The US army is attempting the switch back to 7.62 x 51 as well, due to the proliferation of body armour among its potential...
Agreed. Push LCA production to 36 a year. Buy More Sukhois, mirages or Rafales if needed. No need for yet another jet in the mix. Its time for the IAF to simplify the fleet.
