In line with their contract obligations, French major Dassault Aviation has said it was coordinating between French suppliers and Indian companies to manufacture Rafale fighter jets in India.

Rafale International comprising Dassault Aviation, Safran and Thales has met over 100 French Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Paris. Indian and French Defence Ministry officials, too, were at these meetings. The French Aerospace Industries Association is the nodal agency producing systems and sub-systems for Rafale.

French SMEs were being encouraged to set up production activities in India alongside Dassault Aviation, Safran and Thales as part of the Rafale programme to help the company meet its obligations, said a Rafale spokesperson in India. The move comes two days after a US business chamber expressed its concerns over sharing hi-end technology with Indian companies.

“Encouraging French SMEs to come to India is a key condition to participate in the ‘Make in India’ initiative of PM Narendra Modi and will benefit both French and Indian industries,” the spokesperson said.

Rafale is looking towards creating opportunities for establishing a full-fledged aero-defence manufacturing eco-system in India, said Eric Trappier, Dassault Aviation chairman and CEO and GIFAS chairman.

The GIFAS is a trade body of 382 members ranging from major prime contractors and system suppliers to small specialist companies.

So, after the F-16 fiasco the French smell the victory?
Unlike others, Rafale is not at Uncle Sam's mercy.

Modi trying to bargain down the price for Rafael with tech transfer. I guess that backfired.

Parrikar already said we can't afford more rafales. So i doubt we will see any further rafales in iaf

Backfired ????? Well whatever keeps your boat afloat my friend. LOL :lol::lol:

India is not getting lower price or tech transfer from Rafael. India should just pick the plane and buy them.

Now who told you that ??? If you could read the deal once again in depth, our government managed to get price down to 7.8 bn from 12 bn with extra items such as meteor missiles (which is 5 times better than its competitor). Moreover 50% of the project cost is to be reinvested by Dassault Aviation as part of "Make in India" iinitiative.

Regarding TOT and number of jets, yes we did compromise. But for fighter jets, it is not the quantity, it is the quality that matters. India can get more Su30MKi much cheaper, but the biggest problem is that China also has these fighters and knows all the vulnerabilities of these jets (engineering, radar, software etc.), already has the ability to jam its radars and shoot it down quickly with their inferior home-made fighters. For that matter, any weapon India buys from Russia will also be procured by China immediately just to find out the vulnerabilities so that it could be neutralized during war. It will be same with PAK-FA/FGFA. Russia always gives China whatever it sells to India. There are very few weapon systems India have that the China does not have ability to quickly neutralize. Rafale, besides being the best in class, will be a bird China will not be able to study in the near future and will have difficulty in destroying during war. It is superior to any Chinese and Russian jets to date. And this is a known fact. But you still have some reasons to be happy, and I don't want to spoil that, so enjoy. :enjoy:

If the IAF has money for 100 predator drones, it can afford more Rafales. I would rather see Rafales made in India vs F16s or Gripens. It is far more capable, and versatile. It could also meet they Navy requirement to replace the Mig 29s which are underperforming. Perhaps Dassault could also help more with the LCA and AMCA.

What fiasco are you alluding to?

Isn't SU-35 at the mercy of the Russians and RAFALE at the mercy of the French?

Mercy ??? If that is the word, then American's are at the mercy of many countries for all the imports that they make. This is called business dude, we are not begging to get some subsidy for doing the dirty job's of the French or Russian's unlike some of our neighbors. LOL :p:

They are. But Indians would deny it as India believe that it's more powerful than France and Russia base on GDP PPP. So it's just a business deal. As for US, they need Supa Powa movies to comfort themselves. It's like stick a binky into a babies mouth to stop them from crying.

Like I had said earlier, whatever keeps your boat afloat.

Of-course customer is at the mercy of Mercedes or BMW for genuine spare parts. That doesn't mean if a serious customer come with enough money for spares, they won't sell them. If you consider same thing w.r.t Aviation industries from France, Russia or any other country in that case, no one can save them go out of business down the road if they deny spares and maintenance to their customers. :p:

All businesses depend on goodwill and aviation/defense industry is not any exception. People who pay money has the ultimate say, one who think otherwise are damn fools. LOL :p:

F-16 latest version to today's rafael is what F-16 of 80s was to Mirage-2000. F-16 deal also bring alot better training then French deal.

How will they maintain quality of rafale?

A french made rafale vs india made ...especially the component quality will be in doubt
