Rocket carries into orbit Turkish intelligence satellite

European Vega rocket powered by a Ukrainian-made engine has successfully brought into orbit Turkey's most advanced intelligence satellite Gokturk-1.

The launch that took place at the European Space Center near Kourou in French Guiana on Monday, was watched via live video link by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

That was already the eighth Vega mission since its debut liftoff in 2012, and the second one in 2016.

The lightweight Vega launcher was designed by the European Space Agency (ESA) jointly with the Italian Space Agency for flights with small- to medium-sized satellite payloads. Unlike most small launchers, Vega is able to place multiple payloads into orbit, according to ESA.

The launcher's forth stage RD-843 engine was designed by Ukraine's Yuzhnoe [Pivdenne in Ukrainian] State Design Office named after Yangel and produced by the Production Association "The Pivdennyi machine-building plant named after Makarov."

The Gokturk-1 satellite will provide Turkish military and security forces with more than 60,000 high-resolution Earth-observation images per year.

Opps i came to here read the news about sat launches but i think its wrong place that India versus Türkiye defence compare war...

Nop ! Not the most important. The main engine of Vega's AVUM upper stage (Ukrainian).

Good choice by Turkish government for putting trust in French space systems which no other Western European country has a counterpart.

Show me a single country in similar size which has infrastructure enough to develop such a big and active family of missile systems?

Precision strike Anti-Tank Family:

(Navy)Temren Block-2: 30km (Mizrak based Penguin equivalent strike missile)
(Navy)Temren Block-1: 17km (Mizrak based longer range strike missile)
Mizrak-UL : 8km
Mizrak-UIIR : 8km
Cirit SAL missile: 8km
Mizrak-O: 4km
Mizrak-K: 2-3 km

Single country?

France.

Big Gap.

Iran. Israel. Smaller size.

Korea also deserves mention.

Does anyone know when Gokturk-3 SAR will be launched?

Under the Contract dated 8 May 2013, the Kick-Off meeting was held on 26 November 2013. PDR document is approved and Phase-1 contract of the project is completed (took 28 months of time). Preparatory work of Phase-2 contract is going on.

Göktürk 2 and 3 pages gives the same link from hvkk site just click the one that says Göktürk 3

Unrelaible source (wikipedia page) says "According to the announcement of the Undersecretariate of Ministry of National Defence, the launch of Göktürk-3 is planned by end 2019."

Most website i visit shows newspapers as a source. That all we got. Sorry.

There is also rumors about launching Göktürk 4 with our own rockets which i dont believe. After long air defence missile and better ballistic missile tech launching sats ourselves within the limits of possiblity.

This is a very advanced satellite if I'm not wrong because of the optics which is 0.7m or something like that if I remember correctly. Does India have a satellite built indigenously with those specs that they are talking? Or just like how every single product they have is filled with foreign sub systems, I'm sure their satellites are foreign too.

Sorry for quoting old post, but I would like a link about that resolution.

India has 0.6m cartosat 2 series from 2016 in service, and they are made in India indigenously on Indian satellite buses. Apparently remote sensing satellites are our field of expertise. Don't forget that we have a much larger industrial base, so indigenous subsystems isn't a problem for us.

Its not about having a large industrial base, its about critical technologies. You can produce 5 million cars but that does not mean you can make a fighter engine. China which is one of the largest manufacturing and industrial country and is having difficulty with their fighter engines.

Anyways I cant even remember what I posted that about.
