U.S. asks Vietnam to stop helping Russian bomber flights

VN defeated mighty US in long hard VN war and retake the right to control the biggest and the most important part of SCS(east sea). From Cam Ranh air base, VN-Russia can control the whole South east- East Asian region plus Guam of US.

If US want VN- Russia to stop threatening to their beauty Guam, then US need to stop bullying Russia in their back yard and give more help to VN to stop China's aggression in SCS(east sea) :pop:

That is interesting .Why didnt they use their good friend China's base ? I think Russians unnecessary sorties around the Guam base might caused this issue.

I agree .US is your only best chance against China for now.
I think this is the problem.of the smallnations like you and me .Always forced to engage with big guys game.

I'll try to translate @BoQ77 theory (BoQ77 correct me if I'm wrong).

The theory is, perhaps there is already a quasi-military agreement made between the US and VN. This can be seen when the US has just agreed to train a Viet pilot in the US (not just in English language training like before, but a pilot training program at an US airbase). This could signal that VN is preparing its airforce cooperability with the US. This is just a polite way to tell the Russian to move out (e.g. hey we don't want to force you out, but we're being pressured to force you out).

The Russian bomber patrol from VN itself is not an issue for the US bases in Asia-pac. Those bombers are not even escorted by any fighters and the US can deal with them easily. They are not a real threat to the US bases.

There are rumors that the training of the pilot is for flying F-16s.

Anyway, Vietnam allowed oil tankers landed but not Tu-95 itself.

By the way, I checked 3 vietnamese newspapers and they don't report this story.

RAISING TENSIONS

Asked about the Russian flights in the region, the State Department official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Washington respected Hanoi's right to enter agreements with other countries.

But the official added: "We have urged Vietnamese officials to ensure that Russia is not able to use its access to Cam Ranh Bay to conduct activities that could raise tensions in the region."

This is very contradictory statement, US always says "But, but, but...." with every allies.

Yes fully agreements but.....

To save face for Russian, only small newspaper would post this first. Giaoducvietnam for example.

Blackflag , my theory didn't say Vietnam allows US personnel enter Cam Ranh

The fact that they made the statement public is very revealing. They want to push Vietnam into their camp.
Vietnam needs to be very careful about this, USA will court you one day and they will dump you the next day.
Vietnam needs to keep both of them in balance.

I expect in the next few weeks, or closer to the date the VCP SG make his US visit, the Chinese press will issue out warnings to VietNam "Hey we are traditional friends, don't let a third party divide us", or "don't trust the US, or else..."

ok sorry I will delete that part.

No US military personnel but perhaps "civillian" advisors from Lockheed Martin. ;) Just like there are Russian "civilian" trainers helping viet personnel inside those Viet Kilos. @Carlosa

American made a condition for fully lift the embargo of lethal weapon sale. Vietnam did change much to Western weapons for some years.

Sacrifice a little and get much as they promised

I was thinking that too. Well, this is the time for Vietnam to say? What's in it for me? What are you going to do for me if I move closer to you?

Actually, Vietnam could have a section in Cam Ranh for Russia and another one for US, each one of them do their thing without interfering with the other. Cam Ranh is being enough, no problem, but for something like that, US has to sign a mutual defense treaty that includes the islands.

There is a lot cooking that we don't know.

You must be acknowledged that Nha Trang become the Russian village with almost shops have Russian banner.

I think we'll find out shortly, when VN decides to allow Russia to continue to refuel from Cam Ranh or not. Then we'll know who VN has decided to side with.

I also expect to see more hateful anti-US rhetorics and threads in this PDF section, as we can already begin to see.

That's normal in PDF, ha ha.

My theory for a while has been that US is planning to move against china in SCS after the UNCLOS resolution in January 2016 so that they can act with full legal backing. This thing now with VN is just another preparation for that moment.

If we put Bulgaria as Vietnam case, Russian wouldn't waste their time to persuade Bulgarian not to let NATO use their facilities to confront Russia. If they start to persuade someone, there is chance for success. This is persuading, not scaring Vietnam

Also remember that if the Philippines wins the case, then it also means that the ruling can apply to a lot of what Viet Nam possess in the SCS (reefs inside Philippines EEZ that VN must give up). That's why I was surprised that VietNam had publicly declared that they support the Philippines' legal position. Perhaps @BoQ77 theory is right and that there is already some agreement under the table between VN-US-Philippines.

Ah yes Vietnam showed their support to PH legal case, the same day whitehouse published an analysis criticise on Nine dashed line. It has some implications.

Yes, but VN also presented its side of the claims to the tribunal, but yes, I think there is a grand agreement on what to do in Jan 2016. A lot is cooking towards that. Its already very clear that Phili and VN are on the same page.
