What's new

China submarines outnumber U.S. fleet: U.S. admiral

soon? months, years, decades?? how many naval bases does China have around the world o_O

surely we'll see 20 Chinese aircraft carriers, 60 destoryers and 200 submarines soon :bounce::china::bounce:

Stop being a cry baby. What does number of naval bases do with the numbers of submarine? I give you a dozen naval port and you have only one submarine. Does this makes you superior to others who has one port but a dozen submarines?

China producing YUAN 039B sub like hotcakes. One year alone, we could have commission 4 Yuan AIP and 2 Type093B SSN.

After seeing video of that Chinese destroyer getting taken apart by a 5 meter wave and the feeble damage control that followed, I'm not too scared of anything the Chinese have to offer. They're building a bunch of big, expensive coffins.:china:

LOL,if number is the case here, even North Korean outnumbers USN Subs fleet. :D

Quality, not quantity. While bulk of Chinese underwater fleet is Diesel Electric, US are all silent SSN/SSBNs. The 1980s LA Class SSN is well ahead of anything Chinese or Russian today.

So China might surpass in numbers, but quality is a big issue....and it will take it's natural time for technology to evolve.

We are not aiming to encounter US SSNs or SSBNs one on one unnecessarily right now
Just imagine the world contains over 70% of water
There is a vast area to cover in our sea territories
We cant sit there doing nothing because they have better quality subs
And finally everytime they are making an issue with armaments like that they are crying for more budgetary funding

Cheers!

I am not saying China cannot do it or won't do it. All i am saying that today or the next 2 decades, no one can challenge US Naval power, so bringing a comparison based on number of ships/submarines/aircraft carriers is pointless. They have over 60 years of global experience. This a natural evolution that every naval power has to go through, there are no shortcuts to it. It is just that we were born or lived in times when USA was the leader. China will get there, but they'll need some serious technological progress, and unfortunately, pumping in cash can only do so much.

True.

A well connected network around mainland with numbers to fill is the best available strategy.

Yes, sea denial is the best option, and that is why you'll see South China Sea region with some interesting activity in next years. If you cannot secure your main land sea routes, no point in having global ambitions.

Chinese submarines do not have to engage the USN directly to be useful.

1. 70+ submarines laying mines is dangerous.

2. 70+ submarines attacking merchant vessels is dangerous.

3. 70+ submarines attacking USN underway replenishment vessels is dangerous.

4. 70+ submarines launching CM-708UNA at both ships and land targets is dangerous.

5. 70+ submarines conducting reconnaissance is dangerous.

But then they will do the same?

Pure yellow peril fear-mongering. We know PLAN has relatively few modern SSN.

Hi,

Numbers don't meet much to the U S sub fleet.

Even after the next 10 years---the best chinese sub may not be able to get close to the Re-Furbished Los Angeles class subs.

Chinese must not be lulled into falling into the trap that Saddam Hussein fell into

Can this be done within 10 years?

To be done 10 years is a bit of stretch, I say 15-20 years.

When our nuclear sub is becoming the most advanced in the world, then I think China will start to mass produce it.

That's not true. China's current Type 093B is a rival of the modified LA class with the pump-jet propulsion and advanced VLS cells. Even the USN acknowledges this.

China only needs to pull out the new subs to rival the Seawolf/Virginia class.

Also, China is not Iraq, they are not even in the same league.

Saddam's Iraq was a fake power wannabe, since they didn't even have the capability to produce their own tank.

Back in the 1990s, the US dared to bomb Iraq, yet they didn't dare to touch a much weaker China.

Let me add one more.

6. 70+ submarines shadowing USN ships at a safe distance providing targeting information for ASBM is dangerous.
