Arjun Mk.II Tank Clears All Army Trials, Service Next Year

That's not the only criticism of DRDO. INSAS was not an original model but a copy of AK-47 and couple other rifles. Still it takes them 20 years to come up with that. Have you seen the finish? It looks like some class 10 dropout assembled it in the garage backyard.

Don't even bring up China. China is expert in copy-paste. Their motto is different.

DRDO promised NAG missile. A futuristic fire-and-forget anti-tank missile with 8 km range. Sounds perfect on paper. They promised Trishul, a VSHORAD missile with 9 km range, again perfect on paper. Both ended up as failures. DRDO promises a lot but delivers little.

Wrong DRDO is delivering a lot

True, but what's also the case is after the initial projects, they're becoming more and more competent.

Examples

How long did Prithvi and Agni 1 take from testing to hit production? Like a decade?

Now they are testing and getting examples like these into production much, much faster --

INSAS took some time, but it's successor is taking a shorter time.

Painting a gun black does not make any difference.

I am surprised you follow India more than turkey these days.

DRDO is good with big-ticket projects not so with grassroot ones. But I admit the MCIWS looks as good as any western rifle.

The T-90 and Arjun have more or less the same capability,
This is just incredibly inaccurate. The Arjun is head and shoulders above the T-90S in mobility, firepower, survivability, situational awareness, and usability.

Ever wonder why the Arjun is so much heavier than the T-90S? Because the amount of armor this beast carries is considerably more.

I saw a line somewhere on this thread that the T-90S can do everything the Arjun can do. This is not so. The Arjun can do everything the T-90S can do but the T-90S cannot do everything the Arjun can do.

The IA is working on creating the reqsuite infrastcture to operate the Arjun and once this is corrected the Arjun will be at no disadvantage vis a vis the T-90S and then it will be embarrassing how much better the Arjun is compared to the T-90.

16 years gap between Arjun mk 1 and Arjun mk 2? At this rate Tejas mk 2 won't be delivered until 2031.

You fucking sob,do you even know that the MkII project was initiated by 2012 only??It took just two and half years to build the first batch of prototypes and get them cleared in user evaluation trials. So keep your no good jackshit to your self Mr super retard.

Could be a blessing in disguise ;)

Honestly though Tejas would have been the best replacement for Mig-21 of any upgrade. But lets face it, Bison is a 3rd gen aircraft and the world is moving towards 5th gen. Already China has two types of 5th gen Russia and India are already working on one. Countries like Japan, SK, Turkey are also investing in 5th gen. Don't be surprised if by next 10 years PAF comes with a prototype courtesy China.

DRDO should understand that deadlines are to be respected.

10 million operating cost per piece it will fall down with more orders

Not until we treble the order.

We need to induct more of them and less of T-90s. Mk.II is one of the best tanks in terms of technology right now.

Also we need to pursue foreign clients who are keen for this. Remember, only foreign orders can offset the high costs and recover them to further armour technological research.

Wow!!My dear Pinky is back with her brand new explanation!!Where have you been for so long shlyukha, washing your panties or something?? :D

still army dosent wants MK2 nor does the babus of MOD ...(they never let there comissions slip away)

as for MK 2 its stillat least 5 Tonne overwieght and is at least 5 KMPH slower + it needs a smooth bore gunand a better gear box and running gear which both bleed too much energy as per army sources

so i dont see number of Mk2s any higher than 300 (in total)

as for FMBT well army now wants two types

1. the main one (heavy) whose reaserch should start from scratch with lessons learned from arjun programm

2. the further improoved & much lighter (50T) version of Mk2

and pariker is said to be personalli interested in the second one

What about reports that the FMBT got cancelled?

And why is everyone blaming IA as corrupt, where is the proof for all these very serious allegations which are thrown around so casually?

Yes, the Indian army generals are all fools. They don't know anything about tanks that is why they made such stupid choices.

The Arjun outgunned and outperformed where, under what circumstances and after how many chances? In war the enemy won;t be sitting and waiting for Arjun to peak up.

ATS is the least of the worries. How is the army supposed to deploy the Arjun to the battlefield, using bullock carts? Supported structure can be created but where. The whole countries support structure will have to be changed for the sake of one tank. Or perhaps you mean to say that IA has to station the tanks in a fixed location so that in times of war the enemy fires a dozen cruise missiles and all IA tanks go bust before they can even start up. And if the tanks are stored all over the country how are they going to be deployed if they cannot move over rails and bridges?

How is a tank the most well tested tank in the world when it has not seen combat?

The IA does not import tanks but assembles them here. The plan is to field 1500-2000 tanks by 2020. The IA intends to replace the T-72 with the T-90s.

2,000 T-90 with say 1,000 T-72 as reserve. Not bad at all if only things go as planned. 3,000 tanks is a huge number.

Yes kid, in the last two posts.

First decide how you will troll. Will you troll by saying that China did not build the AK (followed by a lot of smileys) or you will troll by saying that China build the AK but it is not the same as saying China build the AK (again followed by a lot of smileys).

If internet has that covered go and post your questions there.

Your questions are already answered without the use of smileys.

P.S. - Feel free to keep trolling.

Your post is laughable. So you are really saying IA should stick to its old support structure that can only deploy crumbling T-72s/T-55s and T-90s while refusing to advance it's own home made products & continue to be stuck in a vicious circle of imports? What gutter logic is this?

The Arjun-mk 1 did outperform the T-90 in competitive trials under realistic conditions and their missions were the same and the Arjun-mk1 displayed clear overall superiority over the T-90S. This is a known fact. The Arjun is more survivable, has better armor, precise firepower.

You say how is Arjun the most tested while it has no seen combat? I ask you which top tier modern tank in the world has actually seen real tank vs tank combat apart from older versions of Abrams/leopard/Challangers/ etc If you speak of gutter tactics of using tanks in COIN ops like NATO or Israel does for the last 10 years, well then their lack of any real success only shows that COIN works only with real boots on the ground. Arjun has been tested in all types of rugged conditions in the country, it has fired thousands of rounds and it has proven itself.

2000 T-90 is a nice number, but the T-72/ T-55 are outdated and need to be replaced, now unless you want another import to replace the T-72/T-55, Arjun is the way forward and IA has to understand that. Sure, support structure has to be changed but change is always inevitable. IA is too busy complaining but doesn't want to take any decisive action on moving its interests forwards. The same behavior is the reason they keep complaining about the INSAS but didn't take any serious steps to get involved since day 1 in helping OFBs/DRDO develop new rifles.

No one's saying IA generals are fools but many are scared of doing the hard things, it will not be easy to wean ourselves away from imports

Why do you actually think dozens of cruise missiles could just randomly penetrate our air space while more and more sophisticated radars are being deployed across the country. Spyder ADS/ Akash are fully capable of taking down low flying subsonic cruise missiles. More and more the airspace becomes impregnable.

Why should India waste its money on imports especially for tanks, it may cost more to order locally and deploy the new infrastructure needed but atleast we gain more experience building and deploying our own maal.

3000 tanks is a number required to overwhelm Pakistani opposition alone we will need another 7000 for China and that is the reality if we ever need to be in a dominating position with a loud and clear 'don't **** with us' stance

Ignoring Arjun now and focusing entirely on the FMBT is a terrible waste since the FMBT won't be ready if the project officially began today till 2030 in a realistic timeframe. If we have to rely on T-72s till 2030 well then no one will take IA's tank prowess seriously 2000 T-90s alone are not a good defense against China. T-55 and T-72s after 2020 should be used for target practice for regular Anti Tank gunners in the infantry for training purposes. We can also use them as target practice for our CBU-105SFW (cans of whop ***) deployed from Jags. Arjun should duly replace all T-72/T-55 in inventory plus some. I think a total minimum order of 3000 Arjun should be made with most 2000 of them being Arjun mk-2 with improved engine/ATS/ missile firing ability and 1000 being a MK-3 version with further enhancements made over years of service.

FMBT can eventually replace the T-90
