Why PAF never try to acquire MiGs ? i know we had some issues with Russians but now if Paf will go for it than will it be a good option for PAF ?

Why acquire the same tech as India? May be thats the biggest issue apart from financial constraints.

I think from strategic point of view , its good to have different planes so you maintain your own set of tactics and special maneuvers. Plus the mig Platform does not offers more then F16C/D or JF17 Thunder.

The Migs give off a large tracing signature and very easy target for good Pilots.

J11 is a more modern option for Pakistani Forces

well dont you guys think miG-29 can work as a good interceptor ? right now we have f-7's which are assign for interceptor , correct me please if i am wrong !!

you are right

back to your original question, Musharraf did try in the past (requesting flankers) but was politely refused by the Russians due to their long term partnership with India. the best we have got from them and much thanks to them is the world's best transport helicopter the Mi 17 or Mil

Sir actually Russians wanted to sell Flankers to us. The Air Force doesn't need them.

this is news for me, they refused mushy twice on his state visit

Sir

Are you sure it were the Russians? I know that PAF evaluated the SU27 from Belarus in the 1990's but rejected them due to extreme costs associated with maintaining these beasts. PAF also evaluated Ukrainian MIG29's but they were also rejected due to the very same reason.

1: We'll buy Fulcurms the day we want our front line pilots to get knocked down like toys. Fulcurms are Rubbish - only those buy it who can't buy or wont be sold the American jets.

you. air force consider itself to be the best technically and opertaionally and fulcrums are bad only in bad air forces. they performed above expaction in kargil as well.

nearly every asian aur force now has mig29 or su 30 so it must be cost effective and very good . even china has them and is pursuing su-35 .
mig-35. or mig 29-smt is the only 4++ gen you guys can get right now

correct me if i am wrong

Fulcurms are Rubbish?? :woot: Thanks for your very detailed technical analysis of the aircraft in your above post, after which you have concluded that they are rubbish!

Like you can't afford American jets and so gone in for the JFs instead?

For your info, the cost of an American F-16 is in the same bracket of the MiG-29. So how do you say that those who can't afford F-16 can afford MiGs? Or are you talking of the F-35 here?

F-16 - $ 30 million
MiG-29 unit cost - $ 30 million
JF Thunder cost - 15 million

Pakistan can't afford it and that's why you've gone in for the JFs that cost half as much.

The second and more important reason is that Russia will never supply you guys with expensive high tech equipment for fear of losing billions of dollars in arms trade with India. Which is the real reason why Musharraf was refused these aircraft.

(I wonder why Pakistan desperately wanted these aircraft if they are 'rubbish??)

Actually these planes were not rejected based on performance but on other issues.

The first issue was our infrastructure. To accommodate these fighters we needed additional investment in infrastructure.

Secondly we needed assurance that spares shall be made available no matter what the situation.

Thirdly operations and maintenance facilities for these fighters were not available at home and while these were to be created these fighters needed to go to countries out side Pakistan. This cost was deemed to be uneconomical.

These and some political factors eventually killed the project.
