Dong People 侗族 villages and towns

Her appearance looks like a southern Chinese girl ( I go by her facial feature): hair style, no makeups, complexion, jacket style and handbags. But is she an outsider tourist visiting the village or is she a village girl home-visiting from the city? That's the question.

The Zhuang people 壮族 is the largest ethnic group in China after the Hans with about 18 millions (about 17% of the minorities). They are indigenous people of and mostly still live in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China but some also live in the Yunnan, Guangdong, Guizhou and Hunan provinces.

The Zhuang languages are a group of mutually unintelligible languages of the Tai family, heavily influenced by Southwestern Mandarin, The Standard Zhuang language is based on a northern dialect; however, Zhuang people from different dialect areas prefer to use Standard Chinese or Cantonese to communicate with each other. With the central government's help they converted their writings to Latin alphabets from 1957 to 1982 but, then again, the Chinese writing is still the lingua franca. Zhaung are mostly traditional animists practicianers with ancestral believes and some are are Buddhists, Taoists or all of above.
