KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain directed his party’s Coordination Committee on Thursday, to announce a date for its publicised national referendum which would ask Pakistanis whether they want Taliban or Quaid-e-Azam’s Pakistan?
In a statement issued by the MQM on Thursday, Hussain said he directed the Coordination Committee in Karachi and London to announce the public referendum before the country was embroiled in another mishap or natural disaster, adding that the international political scenario was changing at a rapid pace.
The referendum idea had sparked from a speech by Hussain on October 14, after the assassination attempt on Malala Yousafzai, where in he had called on Pakistanis to vote whether they wanted to live in a Pakistan run by the Taliban or the one that the Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had envisioned.
Earlier on October 18, MQM had announced that it would hold a referendum after Eidul Azha.
Days after the speech, the question was also featured on billboards across Karachi.
Providing details on how the party should carry out the referendum, Hussain has asked the party to organise the referendum throughout the country on one day, between 9am and 5pm, designating separate teams in each province for this.
The counting of votes, he added, should be done in the presence of senior retired judges, lawyers or prominent citizens. He also directed that representatives of print and electronic media in each province should be invited to cover the referendum.
Hussain appealed to Pakistanis that since the country was going through a difficult time, they should perform their ‘national duty’ and vote without any fear or pressure.
The statement further added that the the public would be informed about the results of the referendum.
Further information about the referendum can be obtained at the MQM Headquarters, Nine Zero or the provincial or zonal offices in each province.

Don't blame others just because you don't like them!
Whatever is happening in karachi is the result of allover breakdown of law & order allover pakistan, specially in KPK & baluchistan & its nt any secret?
Thts why still we hve announced or un announced militry opreations over there, so its a valid question , as a nation do we need to fight it with commitment or we should accept it as our fate?
Unluckly all the major political parties are hving confusing mindset on the issue,BTW its not Islam against pakarmy which many of us trying to paint & sell?
With clear comitment & with real backup by a tiny nation like srilanka can fightback & win a dangerous gurrila war against Tamil tigers , why can't we can do that?

Look, how the question is placed, Taliban Vs Jinnah
to which the obvious answer ( comparatively ) is jinnah.

Thus MQM can use this to sway public opinion to it's favor, and further polarizing of society as it is.

MQM has neither the vision OR the means to implement anything even close to Jinnah's Pakistan, and if historical record is to taken into account, MQM is capable of much the similar ideology as Taliban.

So in this case My support will go to Jinnah's Pakistan, means operation against MQM?
Jinnah wanted a secular Pakistan. But how many want that? Do you? Most of you want Pakistan to become a purely Islamic state with Sharia law. You can't have secularism and the Sharia law co-existing, can you?

Jinnah's Pakistan is already dead.. DEAD.. and not coming back again.
Ample proof of that are the racial insults you see flying around in this forum..
The only possible hope is to make Pakistan into some sort of Nation, instead of just the security state it is.
That too is withering away as we speak.

If you know the real meaning of secularism than u would not ask tht silly question......

Although I quite agree with Asif Sahab's philosophy for the most part but Altaf Hussain, to be honest, is like a dream come true.
How could anyone disagree with him is beyond me. It's not like he's saying don't practice Islam. Do it by all means, only don't force your ideology on others.

Some people agree with the separation of the State and The Religion and some don't. The fact of the matter is Pakistan was NOT supposed to be an Islamic state. Period.

I, as a resident of Sindh, greatly appreciate the presence of the likes of PPP and MQM in Sindh or else we'd have our a s s handed to us Mullahs by now. I'm looking forward to the referendum.

MQM is not an agent of change. It thrives in the status quo. By making loud statements against Taliban, it wants to get cheap popularity.

MQM should first look at the complete breakdown of Karachi law and order. Taliban could not imagine the proportion of damage MQM has done to Pakistan. Its in the government but does not want to take responsibility.

As for statements, I challenge Altaf hussain to come to Pakistan first if he is not a coward and then make such bold statements against Taliban. It will be really nice to see raw terror of Taliban colliding with street smart terror of MQM.

As for the referendum, I abstain from it. I dont want to participate in any activity initiated by MQM because it has blood on its hands of the innocent people of Karachi.

Jinnah's Pakistan has been completely incinerated by the fire of qarardad e maqasid (Objective resolution) - it is done and dusted, and unlike Phoenixe it will never rise again from its ashes.

The main reason behind violence in Karachi is ethnic polarization and political parties like MQM not only thrive on it, but whenever necessary they add more fuel to the fire. One can easily come to this conclusion after observing the political landscape of urban Sindh of the 80s and 90s. Altaf Hussain is a typical demagogue who has been fooling the semi-literate people of Karachi (the so-called middles class people) for decades. This dramaqueen form azizabad doesn't even qualify to clean the shoes of Jinnah.

Quaid did not want secular state the bases of partition was that muslims wanted islamic state
the slogan during therik e azadi was "Pakistan ka matlab kia LaiLaha ilAllah"
the secular theory is spread by society type media and western kan tattos

Pakistani Taliban threaten to target MQM

PESHAWAR: The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Friday threatened to target the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), vowing to ‘deal’ with the largest political party in Karachi, a spokesman for the banned extremist militant organisation said Friday.

Pakistani Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan, in a statement issued Friday, said that they had decided to the MQM, vowing “not to show any mercy to the apostate tyrants of Karachi”.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain has been a vocal critic of peace talks with militants and his party has taken a visible anti-Taliban stance in the wake of the assassination attempt on 15-year-old schoolgirl Malala Yousufzai by TTP gunmen.

“How can we hold talks with those who fired shots on Malala Yousufzai, Shazia and Kainat? How can we talk about peace with those who beheaded personnel and officers of the army, police and FC?” the MQM chief said in a speech to party workers on Oct 20. Hussain has also urged the Army to take the ‘bold decision of acting against the terrorists’.

The Pakistani Taliban spokesman also called out to Pakistan’s judges to work for an Islamic system.

“I call out to all the judges who are part of Pakistan’s secular laws and courts: You will also be held accountable in front of God some day. Therefore, you should also work for an Islamic system rather than this godless system,” said Ehsan in the two-page statement.

Moreover, the Taliban spokesman also called out to separatist armed movements in Balochistan and Sindh provinces, urging them to “continue their fight in an Islamic way”.

“I urge the leaders of the nationalist parties in Balochistan and Sindh, like the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and the Sindh Liberation Army (SLA), to fight for their rights in an Islamic way,” said the statement.

The Pakistani Taliban also said that they were in the process of forming a strategy with regard to the upcoming general elections.

“We are in the process of forming a policy and will make it public it as soon as a final announcement for elections is made. All current political parties in Pakistan will be divided into three categories in that strategy,” it added.

However, the statement failed to specify what categories these would be.
