ITANAGAR: The Siang ( Brahmaputra) river originating from Tibet was suddenly found to have almost dried up at a town in Arunachal Pradesh, a state government spokesman said on Wednesday night.

People of Pasighat town in East Siang district found the water level of the river receded so much on Wednesday that it almost dried, Tako Dabi said. Dabi, also the political adviser to CM Nabam Tuki, expressed apprehension that China could have diverted the water of the river, which is known as Yarlong Tsangpo in Tibet, or there could be some artificial blockade due to which this has happened.

On June 9, 2000, the water level of Siang rose suddenly by 30 metre and inundated almost the entire township causing widespread destruction to property besides claiming seven lives following the collapse of a hydropower dam in Tibet, said Dabi, who himself inspected the dried bed of the river. Dabi suggested that the Centre and its agencies should immediately conduct a study to find the problem.

The panic of the people can't be brushed off, he said. Yarlung Tsangpo, the highest river in the world, is a water course that originates at Tamlung Tso Lake in western Tibet, southeast of Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. It later forms South Tibet Valley and Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, before entering India at Tuting in Arunachal.

Us Indians will have minimal effect , but it will severly affect our neighbours BD , they are never tired of calling us all sort of things even if we propose to build a small dam over a stream.. I m waiting for their reaction to this news..

Kind of topic to be posted in BD section... There is a hot troll fest and India bashing going on there.

Plz post this in Bangladesh forum...they need to see this. Those idiots always blame us..Time for them to realize what is the truth. Time for India to do covert activities like sending ROV/UAV to inspect the river in China and see what is really going on there. China is denying anything is wrong but wont allow for inspectors to take a look.

We do with Pakistan....good now we have a reason to start playing games with Kashmiri water. YOur friend China wants to constrict flow of water, then Pakistan will feel the pain as well. Enjoy....lets see what guts you have besides whining to UN. This is why trade with them should be very limited. If they want our money, then change your mindset

if it affects Bangladesh then it will be a concern for India too...but we should let china do whatever she is doing...otherwise BD people will blame India only...our strategy should be wait and watch...

I say we reduce the flow of Indus by the same amount

Just make sure the total water in our country is constant. Doesnt make practical sense but just to give a taste of their master's medicine.

Typical Indians, blaming their neighbours for their own problems, with absolutely no proof at all.

Sort of like how they blamed the Pakistani government for the Mumbai attacks, yet till this day these Indians still have no proof.
