When India starts using American products they will find that they arrive on time and come with excellent quality...something they have no experienced with the Russian products.

the only answer to this HARRASMENT(,i coudn't find any better word to use ) is desi ,RUSSIA IS NO USSR FOR GOD SAKE. THE TRUTH BEHIND THIS PROBLEM are ENGINE TOOLING AND MANY ALLIED VEHICLES EG PUSH BACK TRACTOR and air compressor, supporting rack etc etc .... WIKILEAKS lol

exactly everthing seems fine till the real time comes for ultimate test "IT FAILS MISERABLY".........

mig 29 does not have a great engine in the RD-33.

earlier it used to give out smoke , though now the problem has been solved in the mig 29 k ( not in the earlier model mig 29s that india possesses ).

but the engine has to be repeatedly overhauled , more regularly than engines of other planes. enigine life is short too .

besides it is a fuel-guzzling engine , and thus shortens range.

overall ,the indian air force is not happy with its mig-29 experience.

Not sure what's the fun in making such statements without backing them with some source????

May be you are right but the way things are going this it exactly opposite to your claims...

India orders more MiG-29s as Tejas naval fighter slips further

We dont want any Quality, Only thing is, we need the stuff to work when the Real time comes which we have experienced with Russian Stuff yielding More than Expected out of it....:pop:

check out the date dude 17/03/10,even IAC 1 DELAYED BY 6months,and NLCA IS MEANT FOR IAC 1 and 2 so chill

I am chill as always....If we are saying delay is what is irking us then fine but the post i replied to suggest that we are not happy with the performance of the fighter....

All issues have now been resolved when Lavrov met his Indian counterpart S.M. Krishna and Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao at the Foreign Ministry office.

india tried to fit the sukhoi-33 on the vikramaditya , but it could not take off on the short runway that the vikramaditya ( groshkov ) offers.

so it has no choice but the mig-29 k.

what has added to the feeling of having a not-so-great experience with the IAFs mig-29s , especially when compared with the mirage 2000 , is the fact that after the soviet union collapsed , spare parts of the mig29 were not available , as they were manufactured in one of the breakaway republics , and we had to ground the mig29 fleet for a while.

the RD 33 engine is one of the main reasons why the mig 29 proved to be much less successful than the sukhoi 27 and its derivatives in the international market , after the soviet union collapsed .

most of the mig 29s in countries other than russia are the result of the soviet unions policies of giving it at cut-rate prices to its friends .
but after it collapsed , very few countries were ready to buy the aircraft at real price , which still was lower than comparable western aircraft.

and yet we choose to buy more of those??? Look there were problems but not most of them have been sorted. Mig 29 after upgrades and the newer versions that we are buying are very potent and a real challenge for the adversary.......IAF is not a fool to go for more fighters which they are not happy with, no???

IAF is not going for those fighters.

it is the indian navy which is .......

as i said , the sukhoi-33 can fly from the larger aircraft carriers of the varyag class , but not from the admiral groshkov.

so the navy had to go for the mig 29 k.

of course , the mig 29 k has rectified the problem of smoking engines by rendering them smokeless, and range has been increased by accomodating fuel in a ' hump ' on its body.

where even the older mig 29 scored over its adversaries was its maneuverability and ability to fire the then revolutionary AA--11 archer ( NATO name )missile at off-boresight angles , and the mig 29 k has added active radar homing missiles like AA-12 adder ( NATO name ) and new radar ( Zukh--ME) with guided ground attack weapons to make it an extremely potent platform .

but the RD-33 engine remains........

you wont find the mig-35 winning the MRCA contract due to this very engine .

MIG-35 is cheap , weapons are cheap and the infrastructure support is already there in india , so it will be the most favarable economical option in mmrca deal...but the point is the latest tech and i think f-16/f-18 has a clear edge...
