Was Jinnah secular or not?

I am a visiting Pakistani faculty here on an official invite.

quack quack was more offensive than poo poo head?

"Visiting" that flag has been there for a long time and if I recall correctly there was a German flag before that.

Kind of hypocritical to keep going to these secular hell holes for so long.

And funny how no "Sharia" nation has any faculty worth your time....

But hey, if you did what you said, then you would not be a hypocrite.

One can visit as long one is needed.

It was nice over Christmas and Easter holidays. Missed the Christmas feel of Europe however.

There were Christmas holidays in Pakistan too. Does that make it secular as well?

Do you by any chance live and thrive in Quebec with your racist views?

Honestly, that’s a risible point of view. Sometimes, it’s inevitable because of some certain situations in life and that make people leave their country. But that doesn’t necessarily mean, they gotta change their opinions on certain perspectives too. Why? Merely because they have moved to another country?

You really are throwing everything, hoping something will stick.

Just to recap
Ed Sidd: what is secular?
Me:Gives definition
El sidd: gives reply trying to pretend that pakistan fits that description
Me: shows how it doesn't
El sidd: knows he's lost so starts to name call
Me: accuses him of hypocrisy for living in secular lands
Him: oh crap...rusty has a point.... Time to call him racist.

That about sums it up:azn:

I am trumped by this wisdom.

Was Jinnah secular or not?

I say he was secular.

From one of his most memorable speech after independence:

It can be clearly heard that "Ap azaad hai apnay mandiron mein janay kay liye, apni masjidon mein janay kay liye aur apni kisi aur ibaadatgaah mein janay kay liye, Mumlikat Pakistan ka isse koi sar o kar nahi" "Ap is mulk kay barabar kay shareek hain"

let's forget the newly separated India and Pakistan of 1947 and take today's Pakistan and today's India:

We do not have any issues with Hindu or any other minority but if we see what's happening on the other side of the border, can we call it a secular India?

Here we never stopped anyone from going to Mandir or drinking alcohol but in India, Muslims are not even allowed to sacrifice a cow on Eid because that's their "Maata" which I respect and understand but why are you seeing things from your perspective, see the things from a Muslim perspective and you'll understand that they are not sacrificing your Mother God, instead they are just following what is allowed to them in their religion.

let us leave all this above thing aside, is there any freedom of choice to speak for your right? I doubt so because if that's the case why don't you openly in front of the media ask the people of Jammu what they want, whom they want to be a part of etc.?

Well all this discussion is useless maybe? But Alhamdulillah here we are all united Muslims, Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Christian, Ahmadi, Buddhist , etc.

You know my answer as I believe he was secular, but it doesn't matter. We should adopt what works best for our progress and development as a nation. If it is secularism, then let us adopt that... if it's a religion-influenced political system, then let us adopt that.

Doesn’t matter- he’s gone. Whatever his vision was, it died multiple deaths through the hands of the inhabitants of this country.
They now decide what happens to them and the fruit of Jinnah’s sacrifice.

Indeed.

Jinnah established an entire ministry to reconstruct Islam back into the state under the femous Allama Muhammad Asad. As soon as Jinnah died the seculars shut it down and sent Asad abroad. Now they have rewired history to claim Jinnah wanted a secular state.
This is why Muslims become terrorists.

If i hear his 14th Aug 1947 speech, he is secular. I need to read more on him to comes to conclusion.

Gandhi and Jinnah (and some more freedom fighters) are way to big figures to talk about in one line. I cant do such injustice to them.

Jinnah commissioned the Pak flag...

People who're posting singular speeches clearly don't understand what "worldview" means!

Secondly, it can be rightfully said that he was not a "clear-cut" secularist, he interacted and gave credence to religious leaders. He may have some raw ideas about minority rights etc but was not a secularist in any sense.
