What's new

Turkish Armed Forces has been ranked the 6th strongest in the world!

They placed iran above australia.
They placed israel above iran ... Two bones i got

Autralia is clearly more powerful than iran.
Iran is clearly more mighty than israel.

Australia's military has good air and naval assets but pretty much lacks a land army. Plus it only has like 80000 personnel. Not surprising really.

Israel's army is extremely capable but I'd probably rank it down a notch.

I personally would put Brazil higher.

But overall it seems better than GFP, hopefully they further update it.

I just checked their FAQ section and they said that they'll regularly update the list so it may change soon.

It still is not much different than the Globalfirepower but I liked that they added pros and cons of every country. Yes, we are a battle-hardened regional power, but that doesn't makes us stronger than Japan. It makes us capable of using a high majority of power in one punch just like Israel, what I'm saying is being battle ready. Iran and Egypt must be out of the top 20 also Israel and Spain should be in the top 10; UK, France and Italy should have better rankings too.

I don't think Spain should be in the top 10. Isreal's military maybe but their population is tiny and I think that's somewhat taken into consideration.

The big problem with Japan is that they have no recent war experience whatsoever. Training drills will only get you so far. I agree that in terms of equipment they are superior. But not by too much.

Turkey's location has allowed it to test out new tactics and equipment on a regular basis.

I agree that Egypt and Iran should be ranked even lower.

Turkey is in the most clusterfck shitshow of a region. Balkans, Caucasus and the Middle East.

Not to mention we have enemies everywhere also fighting terrorists like pkk, aq and isis.

As time goes you realise why Turkey needs to have a strong, quality and quantity also a battle hardened army.

The wolves do not sleep they prowl.

At first I was thinking to myself that Turkey should be around 8th, however now that I think about it it's one of the only country's which posses good tactics, has a huge land army, big air force with modern planes, fairly large navy, is battle hardened and has a military history of nothing but success since the establishment of the Republic. We also got one of the most militaristic cultures in the world which goes back thousands of years.

There's a reason why we are 6th. When you combine quantity, quality and competence it's a recipe for military success.

Countries like Canada and Australia for example have good quality equipment and training but lack war experience apart from aiding the US in Afghanistan and whatnot. Turkey literally fights every damn day. Egypt and Saudi Arabia are like the opposite of Canada or Australia. They have a lot of equipment but have sh!t training. In my opinion it's all about balance.

Australia and Canada also benefit from geography. Canada is all icy and also has a strong neighbour as an ally which means its all but impossible.

Australia is surrounded by oceans it is also big. Only way to invade Australia is with air and naval assets. Australia is very good with its air and naval power which makes sense as no land army can threaten australia.

Yeah exactly. Australia also has American protection for its shipping lanes.

I am really impressed with Turkish armed forces, they have very strong and balanced forces with latest tech and are investing alot more in to new technology.

The only weakness I see is lack of ballistic, cruise missiles, Mirv tech. I think in this day of age this is a do or die technology, you will be able to attack enemies from your own land, rather than sending warships, fighter jets and they are perfect for defense.

Recently there was a court order which banned Roketsan (Turkey's main missile company) from revealing any details about its new major projects. There are rumours that this could mean that something pretty major is in the works.

A better list than GlobalFirePower for sure, altho still few drawbacks.

I would have ranked Japan above India as well. South Korea ranked number 5 is a good placement. Most people on this forum are oblivious to just how power the Korean military machine really is! Turkey's rank will go up once its LHD comes online.

Turkey and Pakistan should invest massively in air power (1st) and naval power (2nd). This is what defines military power in modern age, not the land armies.

Most of the people doesn't even know just how many MPA aircraft Japan has. They even have more MPAs than the total numbers of most airforces out there... I would have placed them 4th above India as well

This is my top 15:
  1. US
  2. China
  3. Russia
  4. Japan
  5. India
  6. UK
  7. France
  8. South Korea
  9. Italy
  10. Turkey
  11. Israel
  12. Spain
  13. Australia
  14. Canada
  15. Indonesia
But being battle-ready is an another thing tho. It can easily turn the list upside down.
