Turkish Naval Programs

They told the same thing last year as well. Even though there are plans to construct 3 more İ-class ships with the help of private sector, as of now there is no tender going on for the production. Hence, nobody knows who is going to build these ships after İstanbul launches. My bet is they are waiting for a certain government-friendly dockyard to finish work for a certain amphibious ship, and after that we would see the launch of İstanbul and the tender for the remaining ships.

According to official schedule , construction and other engineering activities are planned as 3 years and 10 months. The first steel cut of the Istanbul Frigate was made in July 2017. Therefore, despite all the speculation, still we are progressing according to program. The main problem here is that the tender has not been finalized in the first block production of 3 ships.

When we look at the explanations of the former DzKK Technical Rear Admiral and the bureaucracy on the executive side, we see that the ability of these ship's contructions could be transferred to private shipyards with the help of Pendik shipyard. On the other hand, together with the opinions regarding the delay risks on the combatant fleet and the protection of the weight of military shipyards on the main-combat ships within the force command; In my opinion, the uncertainty is still not overcome. A huge capacity increase has started in military shipyards, especially Alaybey. Also, for small maintenance and repair works, the facilities of the bases in the Black Sea are being improving.

Briefly the pressure created by the increasing geopolitical risks in our region may be the driving force (unfortunately) for us. Because these 'decisions to be taken' can not linger any longer.

Istanbul Shipyard - Sefine -Sedef - ADIK
-Sefine will get DIMDEG orders,
-ADIK may get LST orders,
-Istanbul Shipyard may get Pakistan's corvettes,
Only remaining option is Sedef for this case (assuming there wont be second LHD anytime soon),

Actually span of 3 years 10 months covers from keel being laid, to the completion of the tests. Unfortunately they are aiming ship to be launched at the end of year, not the delivery. Following that,the ship will be either towed into dock or bay to be equipped. The construction has been idle for some reasons and we are 1-1.5 years behind of the planned schedule. It supposed to be in service by 2020-1 now the updated date seems to be 2022-3.
Should also note this, TCG Istanbul's ceremony has been rushed due to political reasons , while the design actually had not been completed. The construction has been carried out until "common sections" with Ada class has been built and later the project has gone idle for some reasons eventhough the design was completed.

Oh but they can be. If RMK was to produce Ada class according to the plan, we should've been able to start the construction of TCG İstanbul eons ago.

Gülhan-Dearsan ?
I doubt if Dearsan's current slipway and their capacity can handle a ship in size of a frigate. They could rent floating dry dock but again their experience is mainly based on small vessels.
I rather kept them out of the list since they are suitable for the FAC project.
One more reason; the builders of I class will be candidates for TF2000, which definitely puts Dearsan out of the list.

But RMK and Dearsan were the last two shipyards in the old Milgem tender?

Milgem was shorter, and Dearsan was hopeless in that tender. RMK had been started to talk-negotiate with Pendik Naval Shipyard even before than tender was officially finalized.
Dearsan has one slipway and it is about 100 meters, and largest civilian ship they built does not exceed 100 meters*. Ada class could fit on there, but their facilities may not have kept up with load of the tight schedule for 4 ships which requires simultaneous productions.( The reason they have lost the tender, they need to launch a ship before starting to erect another)
*My bad, the largest they have built was 125 meters. It could be thanks to the profile or the slipway can handle up to 125 meters, we will see whether they will apply/ or be eligible for the tender. But since they were eligible for ada class, they will be for this either.
I still think they would be spared, and would prefer to be spared for FAC.

In any case, it would be better than the terrorist lover-supporter Germans to build these ships.
