JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

Hi

it did not work that way.

we got better ew package for the blk2—that allowed us to stretch the production of blk3 further down again to get better ew pkg.

in the blk 3 we will have some equipment better than the j20 in service—-basically we got the next tier up equipment.
It is like a left and right foot advancement.
Like J 20
Blk3

next blk J20
Blk4

so technically we will be a step agead of some of the gadgets on the J20

So both us and the chinese will fine tune the current ew pkg on Blk 3 and that will go into the next batch of J20
MK u think PAF will look another type like more F16 s or Russian option after blk 3???when military training programs is resumed hastily by US??? MY gut feeling we will see more F16s too very soon blk 3 will make American think again to open Up.

Good question. One thing to be noted though, the new Block-III image taking off ...
fb_img_1577559824857-jpg.596396

shows that the afterburners are are not lit.

This has been first pointed out by @CriticalThought .

I too am compelled to ponder whether a more powerful engine has been installed. Because if I am not mistaken, all the take offs of the Thunder, prior to this event, has been with full afterburners lit.

I maybe wrong. But If I am not then it is a point to ponder.

Another explanation could be that the empty weight of the Fighter plane has been reduced considerably ... due to use of extensive composites i.e. the portions of the fuselage in green.
Nice observation, also check the Heat trails while talking off, it’s usually quite dense and widespread normally unlike this pic, could suggest a different engine

I thought Jf17 block 3 would be a game changing 4.5th generation jet. It took 7 years to bring out a similar aircraft as block 2 and people were talking about bringing out a 5th generation plane within the next 10 years. I am disappointed. Let's debate another 7 years on block 4 or project AZM
Come on man, Block 3 is in a league that no fighter in iaf or paf currently is !!!

I am not at all disappointed at this MightyDragon !!!

It will come above expectations in time

Ab andaza laga lo project AZM ka.. :smokin:
AZM will be a 6th gen so i can’t “andaza lagaing” right now

I saw a few guys claiming block 3 having a different design and hardpoints. That is not all the case.

JF-17 Block 3 is IDENTICAL to block 2 in almost all aspects externally.

The major differences include;

1) Revamped software to support and handle a variety of missions (ie. SEAD/DEAD)
2) New weapons such as PL-15, RAAD will be the highlights for block 3.
3) Improved engine performance. Turbines have been reworked to produce added thrust.
4) AESA radar (cannot disclose which one)
5) Turkish EW suite
6) Strengthened abdomen and wing roots to carry heavy weapons such as RAAD and PL-15s.
7) Recc pods will be fully operational.
8) Upgraded Link capability similar to F-16s. All JF-17s are able to communicate with SAAB's securely. Each JF-17 pilot would know what other JF-17 can see and what he is up to in a given mission. What are his fuel levels, what is the status of his weapons. It's a fully integrated system just like F-16's link 16 which Wg Cmdr Nouman Ali Khan leveraged to execute a mission beautifully.

In other words, IAF will be faced Block 52 category weapons systems that too in mass numbers in just 5 years from now. Production of Block 2 is slowing down and Block 3 will be produced from February 2020 at PAC.

The first two Block 3's are currently undergoing FCFs (functional check flights) and are expected to join PAF in February 2020.

On the export side, 08 Block 2's are to be delivered to Nigeria in 2020. Qatar and Malaysia are eyeing for Block 3.

In a nutshell, JF-17 program has been a blessing for Pakistan Air Force. Its only a matter of time when we will have access to EU hardware. The Block 4 is already on the charts and it will be nothing short of a Rafale as far as current plans are concerned.

I would be shitting my pants if I was IAF.

@waz @Windjammer @The Eagle @Trailer23 @Imran Khan
Bro, does Block 4 intend to go medium category similar to Gripen NG Route ?

can any senior member explain how much externally F-16 changed from block-15 to latest block 70 ??????

Whatttttttt who says its taking off look at wing flaps which fighter takes off with flaps in this direction :what:

That’s landing !!!
Thanks for the correction, and some later on it is displayed to the audience in the same spot, it must have turned back quite shortly after

That is possible ... but what swayed me to think other wise ... is that in the first pic the plane is facing in the opposite direction and it's landing shute cap is open ... which means it is after landing.

But again, as I said before ... I could be wrong.
it landed and came back after taking uturn in front of spectators
