Why do Sylhetis find it difficult to mix with Bengalis?

Tell this to them.

People who met a couple of Sylhetis abroad and now have learned more about Sylhet than Bangladeshis.

I used to pray Jummah namaz at a Sylheti masjid in London every week for several months.

No one minded that I was an obviously light-skinned Pakistani, infact they went out of their way to be hospitable.

Other than that I have a lot of Sylheti and Bangalis friends, so I can make the distinction.

I know many great Bangalis too, and they are great folks. Their priorities about identity and ideas about Pakistan and Hindus are just very different.

Although, I will say that Sylhetis generally introduce themselves as Bangladeshis to non-Bangladeshi people.

Then when they open up, their political and religious views are very different to the common Bangali and it really shows.

So, I have to learn about Sylhet from you? Have you ever been to Sylhet? You are basing your opinion on few Sylheties you met abroad. What matters is what Sylheties in Sylhet think. And I think I know that better than you because I have been to Sylhet many times.

Meeting them in the US, UK, and Canada, every single Sylheti always tries to convince me that they are different to Bangalis and closer to Pakistanis.

They are most of the ones who attend masajid, go on tableegh, and keep long beards. There are some Bangladeshis also who do that, but mostly they have a secular outlook.

I noticed that all Sylhetis prefer the company of Muslims, like Pakistanis and Arabs, and don’t feel shy about it while there is a significant group (not all) of Bangalis who prefer the company of Indian Hindus (even having no problem dating Hindu males/females) and become timid and self-conscious around other Muslims.

The Sylhetis also generally tend to support Pakistan/Kashmir and other Muslim countries and see their origin in Turkic, Persian, Pukhtoon groups.

Most Bangladeshis in the West of the recent new immigrant generation have a lot of anger and resentment towards Pakistanis, but the earlier immigrants from Bangladesh (80s/90s) and Sylhetis don’t have those negative feelings generally.

Present generation knows more due to the advent of internet and media.

Most of Bangladeshi living in London are from Sylhet.

And most of Bangladeshi who are not from Sylhet, are not necessarily closer to indians , and also they have no issue with Pakistan brother. Most of them have great feelings for Pakistanis as Muslim brothers. And of course support the right of Kashmir . What you see in PDF does not represent Bangladesh.

However we also have no problem with good and friendly Indians too , as we consider human as human first. Specially we can be closer to Bengali speaking Indians (only who are liberal in nature and oppose hindutva ideology ) not because they are Indian but because they are Benagli and other than religion we share lots of similarity in Bengali culture . But who are hindutva Bengali from west Bengal ( or few in Bangladesh too), we will avoid them as we avoid Jamatis despite both speak in Bengali language ! In the end we prefer humanity first.

Finally in every countries there are some arrogant clowns who believe that they are superior to others, and know more than others. In reality they know very little and they are unable to know peoples heart bit.
And this type of peoples love to create anarchy in a society.

Both jamati and chetona cult ( hold fake spirit of freedom fight that is actually far from it) are the finest examples in Bangladesh.

Jamati cult see India in every case ,while chetona cult find Pakistan in every case(it's sort of dirty blame game). They are not mainstream peoples in Bangladesh.

Yes, the older immigrants and their children don’t care at all.

As far as the new immigrants, 50/50 as I have observed. Either they love Pakistanis wholeheartedly as a Muslim brother or they have no problem being rude and mean to Pakistanis (even in a party, public, or masjid.)

Present generation knows more due to the advent of internet and media.

They have more negativity and pent up rage than the generation which went through ‘71. How does that happen?

You speak Multani, so you are neither a Punjabi nor a Lahori. Will you stop talking fuzzy things all the time like a Hijra? Better start Hijra dance, stupid!!!

Seraikis are Punjabis, bro.

I’m a Lahori originally from East Punjab-Kashmir border region.

Sylhetis are an interesting part of Bangladeshi society to us Pakistanis. Just like some of the religious Bengalis, they are pro-Pakistan.

It goes against a lot of what we and our parents thought, like how all Bangladeshis hate Pakistan and Pakistanis.

I am sorry but you cannot label people of a certain region of Bangladesh as pro-Pakistan. Chief of staff of Mukti bahini was a Sylheti. Commander in Chief of Mukti bahini was also a Sylheti. Trying to create division between Bangladeshi people will not work. Sylhetis are like other Bangladeshis few maybe pro Pakistan. But almost everyone are pro Bangladesh.

I have lived in Sylhet for 7 years. Common people in Sylhet do not know that they are anyway different from other part of Bangladesh. They do not know that they are not Bengali, rather Sylheti. Or being Sylheti means, you are not Bengali. They need Pakistani help from London to learn about their true identity.

Who minded about your ''obviously light-skinned Pakistani'' surat in other instances?

Sylheti and Bengali? You should come to Sylhet and explain to common Sylhetis that they are not Bengali. I guess you are from Punjab. What about picking up a district of Punjab and claiming it's people are not Punjabi? Multani are not Punjabi, Sialkoti are not Punjabi, right?
Then when they open up, their political and religious views are very different to the common Bangali and it really shows
Religiously Sylhetis are conservative but not politically. Sylhet is one of the stronghold of Awami League. There are 19 parliamentary seat in Sylhet division, in all the election up to date, most were owned by AL, even during 2001 election when AL defeated massively by BNP. In that election, AL did much better in Sylhet than other regions. Similarly, Noakhali, Chittagong, Bogra are known as the stronghold of BNP.

Even in 2001 disaster year of AL they won all 4 seat at Habiganj ! So now I am wondering if they will be considered lesser Muslaman or not . however for non Bangladeshis , habiganj is a district of Sylhet Division and once it was part of greater sylhet district !

Exactly ! Pro Pakistani and pro Indian is just political artificial dividation , this nonsense ideology decreasing over time , and it will be vanished soon IMO . In the end all Bangladeshis are actually pro Bangladeshi

This is not an ideology. This is like supporting two rivals. Similar like our Brazil-Argentina dichotomy. But unlike Brazil-Argentina which have a massive fan following in Bangladesh, opinion on India or Pakistan are not strong. Other than some rootless rajakar or some 5th column Hindu like this OP, no one in Bangladesh has any special love for either these two countries.

Do you want to lose half of your country again?

Lmao "half" you guys are geographically retarded.

And pseudo-colonies don't count. Even if you think they do, it doesn't change the fact that we didn't even suffer 1% of the casualties you did and got out of the situation continuing to do pretty well for ourselves (until 9/11). Or that we ruled over you for more than 2 decades.

This time in Baluchistan.

I can see how good you have done. Totally. The image you have built for yourselves. Anyone with a Pakistani stamp on the passport have to go through a lot of trouble to visit another country. Kudos to you.
Why are you tagging the rakhine Baloch? He is an undercover agent. He pretends to be on your side while actually he is on the other side.
