General Muhammad Zia ul Haq was Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Martial Law Administrator and (later) President. He is one of the most polarized figures of Pakistan. His brand of administration has left irremovable marks on Pakistan's destiny.

Every leader/Politician/Dictator in Pakistan's history made blunders but still Zia ul Haq was far much better than majority of them specially who came after him.
It is during his rule that Pakistan achieved capability of Nuclear weapons, most importantly his stance during 1987 Indo-Pakstandoff prevented another major war in the region.

He's pretty much a neo-Aurangzeb, with people holding greatly polarising opinions of him.

Never the less, under his rule, Pakistan acquired F-16s (some of the most potent aircraft in the world to this very day), the USSR and the Afghan regime were both crushed, Pakistan's nuclear capability was significantly advanced, and our nation had the fastest rate of economic growth in the world.

It's difficult for me to dislike such an individual.

Agreed ........ Heroin and Guns, Afghan terrorism, religious extremism, rishwat, police corruption,govt institution destroyed on top greatest gift of Nawaz Shareef .
And at the end when the job was done. Those who brought him in power send him back to his ultimate destiny.
But my country is totally destroyed. It will take time to recover from those deep wounds and scars of the past.
