Daily Times - Leading News Resource of Pakistan
LAHORE: President Asif Ali Zardari is encouraging peaceful relations with India in line with the Pakistan Peoples Partys (PPP) established policy - a stance now echoed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif, said Daily Times Editor-in-Chief Najam Sethi on Saturday.
Speaking during his show on Dunya News, he said Zardari had to choose Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen from outside government, because he had no one capable of strengthening Pakistans economic position in the government.
Sethi suggested the president expel all of his friends currently occupying important government positions, adding Zardari could become a world-renowned leader if he managed to improve the overall situation of the country. He said it was unfortunate the sacked judges could not be reinstated in accordance with the Charter of Democracy (CoD). He said the CoD should be implemented and President Zardari should understand it was the best agreement for democracy devised by the countrys major political parties.
The Daily Times editor-in-chief said the Swat peace agreement had been signed at the Awami National Partys (ANP) behest, adding the president and the army were against the pact. He said this agreement had led to misunderstandings between the government and the army. He said the army had prevented the government from taking control of the Inter-Services Intelligence.
