Former Hizbul Mujahideen commander Zakir Musa has been cornered by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Tral district, media reports said. According to reports, Musa, is believed to have gone into hiding as soon as forces closed in on him.

Kashmiri daily, Greater Kashmirreported that government forces launched a cordon-and-search operation on Friday in Norpora village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Norpora is the native village of the Kashmiri militant.

According to reports, people took to streets to stage protests as the operation was launched. The Indian armed forces had to reportedly resort to teargas shelling to disperse the protesters because they started pelting stones on the army.

The internet connection has also been suspended in the area because the police does not want anyone spreading any fake news as Musa has a huge following in the village, CNN-News18reported.

Musa was made the head of Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, the Al-Qaeda cell in Kashmir, in June this year. The announcement of Musa as the head of the terror group marked the entry of Al-Qaeda into Indian territory.

Musa is in the list of the 12 most-wanted militants released by the Indian Army in June 2017. Musa was named as an A++ category militant in the list.

Killing him is not yet in our interest,he's a nuisance to his own side because he exposes the religious element in kashmir dispute to the world.I think IA will let him 'luckily escape'.
