Security forces on Friday shot down Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi, a close aide of most-wanted terrorist Zakir Moosa, in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore.
Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi alias Abdulla bhai was a commander of the Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK), an IS-inspired module, with Zakir Moosa as its chief, sources said. Ishfaq was believed to be the lone survivor of the terror outfit in Kashmir.
One terrorist was killed in exchange of fire with security forces in Shopian today [Friday]. Arms, ammunition recovered, tweeted news agency ANI on Friday morning.
Sources added that Ishafq Sofi had joined Harkat-ul Mujahideen (HuM) in 2015, but later joined ISJK in 2016.
Most-wanted Zakir Moosa, however, continues to elude security forces. Earlier, there were reports of Zakir Moosa hiding in Punjab.
Security agencies were put on high alert in Bathinda and Ferozepur districts of Punjab following intelligence reports that terrorist Zakir Moosa could be hiding in the area.
Zakir had succeeded Burhan Wani as the chief of the terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen following Wani's death in an encounter with security forces in Kashmir in July 2016.
He later went on to head terrorist organisation Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH), a cell of Al-Qaeda, in Kashmir valley and was said to be aligned with a global terror group.
