What's new

Zaid hamid rips "Democracy" A new one!

It's a personal request to all the Indian members that when you see a thread with the name "Zaid Hamid", please refrain from entering if you don't have anything positive to say.

Why, is he your idol?

. .
No he's not. But if you feel like acting like a moron, there's plenty of other threads where you can overwhelmingly prove yourself to be one.

Its an open forum. I can act like a moron on any thread I want.

BS, Democracy can work just fine, if we try to Reform ourselves, first and then ask for Changes in the system and others! Spitting venom wont help anyone!

.
Sorry to burst your bubble fellas, but seeing this Hamid dude, a shrink friend of mine carefully observed his behavior by muting the videos and finally diagnosed his condition as Bipolar Disorder.
I used to get irritated by his rants, but now I really sympathize with this guy for his mental condition!

If you don't have anything to contribute on the "TOPIC" which is basically "westernised-Democracy In Pakistan" then don't say anything. You may continue to troll elsewhere for now.

Thanks for stopping by!

nah its not bipolar, because in that case he would rotate between making foolish assumptions and making sensible ones. But this guy, he goes on making totally laughable but dangerous stuff, which is foolish and poisonous at the same time!

I think its attention hogging syndrome. The most bizzare of Ideas are put forward by him, not out of any mental illness but by some self esteem issue.

We just went over this on the suggestions thread.

IF ZH irritates you, don't bother responding on his threads.

If you do want to respond, counter his arguments, do not engage in name calling.

Temp bans next time.

Exactly.
Most of the Romans were illiterate too. Democracy worked fine for them till the power was uspered by the Ceasers. That led to their downfall. You cant depend on the whims of a single party with a particular ideology or a single person for the betterment of thousands or millions.

I think that its best if all the people come out a tad bit dissatisfied from a negotiation than if a few numbers are satisfied against the rest of totally dissatisfied people. Why should some people be awarded and others very dissatisfied when everyone can be a little dissatisfied? Well, that's Democracy!

Democracy isnt the best method of governance, but its the only method that works the best. Studying history, we can see that only democratic countries have made significant progress, compared to autocratic regimes or dictatorships.

Only Democratic Countries have made progress? Most of the "Scientific and Military" technology that we use these days were shaped and created WAY ahead of their times by the Nazi's. You're saying that Soviet Union never made any "Significant" progress in it's time?

Do you understand Urdu? Because if you do, you should watch the video that I posted. And also, you should pick up a book or two about History. Empires that have flourished throughout our history, weren't based on Democracies but Dictatorships. Sole allegiance to the King/Queen/Emperor without question.

China is currently a rising power both economically and militarily. Are you aware of their Governance system?

This was all true before the world had become a global village. Now, the countries run by totalitarian governments are failing in all respect. People are more enlightened and aware of their rights thanks to the print and electronic media. I have met many Chinese and all of them think that Cultural Revolution was a disaster. It was not until Deng Xiaoping who repudiated the Cultural Revolution in mid 1970s and China slowly emerged as an economic superpower. Also, a totalitarian government run by civilians is very different from a military dictatorship. Hence the situation in Pakistan can’t be compared with that of Nazi Germany, Russia or China. Burma is more comparable to what we see in Pakistan. Needless to say how much Burma has achieved under a military dictatorship.

According to me, the current boom in China could not have happened without the cultural revolution.

The cultural revolution completely destroyed the Old China - the culture, attitudes and thinking was changed completely.
No doubt it was extremely chaotic and violent, but that is how revolution works. It tries to eliminate all traces of the past, so that people have nothing to cling to except the future.

India however, is a different story - here change has always been gradual, because there is less killing, and attitudes change with each generation rather than suddenly within generation.

I just mentioned what Chinese (whom I met) think about the Cultural Revolution. Since i am not a Chinese and have never lived in China, I cant make assumptions on how much cultural revolution contributed towards the development of the country. I do think however, that Cultural Revolution did unite the chinese in a way. Did I say anything about India?

Well, I'm not accusing you or anything, just putting my views forward. You didn't mention India, but I thought a comparison was appropriate.

Cultural revolution didn't unite China politically, but it wiped away the old cultural bonds and attitudes which was keeping China stuck in the middle ages.
Whether this was worth the millions of deaths suffered is another debate altogether.

Its quite natural the modern day Chinese would look back at the cultural revolution as the 'dark days', but I don't think the current explosive growth would be possible without it.

Now don't get me wrong - I"m not defending the Cultural Revolution or praising it.

Another thread down the toilet, but the exchange of views is good but actually terming it "simplistic cow/bull manure" personally is rather crass and rude. I feel that everyone is entitled to their opinion but that should not involve crass terms or offensive grotesque words.

ZZH is excellent because he allows young minds to challenge both existing trends and intra-cultural/political norms, and as George Orwell once said : In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.

Good on you ZZH.

Zaid is good. He talks about the facts and what most Pakistanis want to hear. However, for a Political & Defence Analyst, he is not cool minded and has tendency to drift with emotions. If he could overcome this weakness (getting emotional) of his, I guess even Indians will start taking him more seriously. Having said that, I also think that even though he refers to Jinnah and Iqbal, he does'nt appear to believe very much in human rights, democracy and freedom of press. Needless to say that Jinnah and Iqbal were standard bearers of the three mentioned above.
