. . . . .
Hardly.

This thread celebrates a so-called sport which in reality is barbarism.

If those fighters really want to use their physicality, they can join or establish a revolutionary movement.

Umm it’s a sport

He's a legend to those of us who practiced, or still practice the noble art of Muay Thai. He has proved his worth a million times over by fighting men far larger than him, and those of different styles.

Look at the second picture. So bloody. And there are people paying to watch those two injure each other. How is this different from the barbarism of the Roman gladiatorial games?? What kind of sport is this??

My heroes still are revolutionaries, whether Che Guevara or Muammar Gaddafi or Carlos, among the modern ones.

The fighters in the pictures should put their skills into revolution, changing their own societies and those in the world.

Have you seen the MMA of the US?

By comparison, China is quite "mild".

I know a bit about MMA. As you said it the Chinese version may be much milder than MMA.

As long as such activities ( martial art ) are practiced as self-defense there is no issue. But my objection is to turning them as competitive sport played out in front of 400 paying and screaming public.

I have watched the film 'Never back down' which is about MMA, and if I remember correctly, the teacher played by Djimon Hounsou doesn't want the hero to use his skill as a sport.

Buakaw is a legend, the heart of a champ. Yi Long is cool but all those free hits he gives to his opponents will end up taking their toll in the long run.

You only see a tree, did not see a forest.
You are concerned about the "potential moral hazard". But ignore the significance of sports itself. Any movement will have competition. Boxers and footballers are no different. They are fighting for honor. Elite athletes because sports spirit and ability to be respected, to win fans. Similarly, they bring development and progress to the sport, Let more people participate.

People like MMA. Because people love this sport.
This is why Muay Thai is prevalent in China.

Chinese Muay Thai practitioners.
