Yemeni Forces' Soviet-Era Missiles Hunting S. Arabia's Abrams Tanks

TEHRAN (FNA)- Destruction of the US-made Abrams tanks by the Yemeni army's 40-year-old Konkurs missiles these days proves that what Washington has sold to the Persian Gulf Arab countries at a high price is no more than a piece of clunker.
Recent footage released on the web shows the Yemeni army and popular forces attack an Abrams tank with Konkurs missile which fully destroyed it instantly, of course to much surprise.

Although one of the tank's crew manages to flee the scene, the footages show the tank is set ablaze and destroyed completely.

Konkurs is a SACLOS wire-guided anti-tank missile made by what was once known as the Soviet Union. Its NATO reporting name is AT-5 Spandrel. The missile entered service in 1974.

The Abrams is an American third-generation main battle tank produced by the United States. The M1 Abrams entered US service in 1980, replacing the M60 tank. After the start of the Saudi-led war against Yemen, two M1A2 (Abrams tanks) MBTs were deployed near the Saudi/Yemeni border.

Beginning in 1987, M1A1 tanks received improved armor packages that incorporated depleted uranium (DU) components in their armor at the front of the turret and the front of the hull. Armor reinforced in this manner offers significantly increased resistance towards all types of anti-tank weaponry, but at the expense of adding considerable weight to the tank, as depleted uranium is 1.7 times more dense than lead.

That's why the US has been using Abrams only with this improved armor for two decades now.

But the US-made tanks sold to Saudi Arabia and used in Yemen war have no DU armor, meaning that the US has sold Riyadh nothing but a piece of junk which was once good for war in the 1980s.

. . . .
add to the list, Abrams junk which U.S sold to Iraq and so far several ones has been destroyed by ISIS terrorists.
Konkur specially the Konkur-M version is perhaps the 2nd most devastating pan portable atgm at the moment besides Kornet(which is another gem of an atgm). The 2006 Lebanon war proved in front of everybody the superiority of the Kornet missiles when the Hezbullah managed to destroy numerous Merkhava-III/IV tanks using Kornets:coffee:.And the funniest thing is that we(I mean India) has an arsenal of over 25,000 Konkur-M missiles which we ordered from Russia in the last decade, plus we have another 3000 Kornet missiles along with 250 launchers.Just imagine the woes of the enemy when it'll try to invade India:sarcastic:!!
Btw what kinds of atgm are in the Iranian Army arsenal beside BGM TOW and its derivatives??I mean,do you guys have Kornet and Konkur-M??

Sir jee,it's not that every missile is going to hit a tank. The probability of a 2nd generation missile like Konkur hitting a modern tank is almost 60-70%.Plus you never know when there will be an embargo on us in case of a full fledged war in the near future. So it's better to be safe than sorry:rolleyes:

We are producing Toofans (Tows ) and Kornet as Dehlaviyeh ... and we are building launchers as well ...

Toofans series are different from Tow but Dehlaviyeh Series are Kornet's Copies ...

Well as long as you have Kornet in your arsenal you need not worry about any kind of armor thrust be it from the U.S. l or from KSA or Turkey(hypothetical situation).Kornet is a beast of an atgm, heck even the T-14 Armata probably doesn't stand a chance in front of the Kornet let alone M1A2 and Leo-2A5s:coffee:

hahaha 40 years old ATGM doing that is amazing
there is nothing to celebrate about estruction and death.
Yemen conflict could have been avoided. my disagreement towards GCC in the invasion of Yemen is known but I wont celebrate the deaths of Saudis or Yemenis and will continue to pray for peace in the entire region and specially where innocent civilians are facing the bombs from the air strikes and the IEDs and executions of the terrorists.

Abram is a junk? I refuse to accept that.
its indestructible unless a careless and incompetent operator leaves the hatch open for someone to toss a bomb inside.

. .
Abrams aren't junk, its just that the battle for getting more protection against more powerful ATGMs is a losing battle. The same konkurs were used to turn Merkava's into scrap metal in the lebanon war and Merkava is probably the most heavily armored tank in the world. There is a limit to how much you can protect a tank against ATGMs.

Well its harsh to call an Abram a junk but honestly do you believe that American army tanks have the same quality with the export version of the tank.

.
There isn't any tank that can withstand a 130 mm HEAT. It's physically impossible.

It's a junk, unless your enemy hasn't upgraded itself since 40 years ago!

yes, there is. the same Abrams tank, but not the junk variant which has been exported to GCC countries. during 2003 war against Iraq, even kornets couldn't penetrate the Abrams from front.
