Sanaa, Taiz - Asharq Al-Awsat
Yemeni army forces made strategic breakthroughs over the past three days in their battles against the Iran-backed Houthi militias.
Advances were made in Saada, Hajjah, Hodeidah, Taiz and al-Bayda, marking a shift towards a deciding battle in the coming weeks, especially on the west coast fronts.
Government forces and the National Resistance Forces, led by Brigadier Tariq Saleh, managed to make significant progress west of Taiz, backed by Saudi-led air support.
This secured strategic crossroads for supply routes controlled by the Houthis in al-Mokha, al-Barah, al-Waza'i and the vicinity of Khalid Bin Al Waleed Camp areas.
This strategic advance was made only 20 days after Saleh, the nephew of slain former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, joint the ranks of the pro-government forces.
The advance is aimed at cutting militia supply routes that connect to their remaining pockets in southwestern Taiz.
According to the plan by Tariq Saleh's forces, the mission in areas west of Taiz are nearing their conclusion after the troops managed to secure their back. They will now be able to shift their attention to the main battle by heading north towards Hodeidah.
Yemeni field sources meanwhile said on Tuesday that Tariq Saleh’s forces seized the Barh strategic town west of Taiz amid a collapse in Houthi ranks.
Media sources affiliated to Tareq Saleh’s forces said that they seized complete control of the al-Mokha crossroad and its surrounding areas.
They consequently cut Houthi supply routes on the coast, most importantly the route that stretched from the Ibb province, they explained.
