'Drunk' Yahya hinted at India attack 10
days before '71 war

Jan 16, 2012, 03.11AM IST PTI NEW

DELHI: Around 10 days before war broke out between India and Pakistan in 1971, the then President of Pakistan Yahya Khan had given an inkling of his intentions to attack this country after taking a few drinks with an American
journalist. Yahya had told the journalist on the day of their meeting that he would be "at the front within 10 days" when the American talked about getting back to the General in ten days time on the issue of meeting the President gain, according to recently declassified ministry of external affairs documents.

And Yahya's word, perhaps made
unwittingly, came true when Pakistan
launched air attacks on military targets in India's northwest on the evening of
December 3, 1971. Shortly after, the
Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi said the air strikes were a declaration of war and at midnight, India launched an
integrated ground, sea and air attack on
East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, and West Pakistan.

Next day, the then US envoy to India
Kenneth Barnard Keating called foreign
secretary T N Kaul to talk and mentioned
how Khan had told Bob Shapley, a New
Yorker correspondent, that Pakistan
would be at war with India in 10 days, MEA files show.

the war had already started in october /november when in indian armyBSF started occupying border posts in east paskitan, some in association with the mukti bahani (an indian terrorist proxy)....

Do you mean we started occupying some posts in East Pak in October '71?

i hate to admit it ,but the fact is on the 22 Nov 71 we did attack one of their posts . its recorded , you will find mention of it in the book "the Indian army after independence" but we did withdraw after that .

What he means is from border post we did the genocide in East Pak while their army stood helplessly watching it........LOL

No,not really. What he did mean was that you supported a terrorist outfit which committed genocide against Biharis and West Pakistani's while PA fought two enemies from within and of course we cant expect flowers from the other side the border.

A Drunk and Romping yahya also forgot meetings with ambassadors.
We Pakistanis as a nation should literally shriek with sorrow and disgust at the sort of horrors and blunders commuted by the various leaders of our country after Jinnah.

By this time Pakistanis were carrying out raids across the border on the eastern front too.

so the Bengalis who were fighting for a just cause aka their identity, language and many other things are the terrorists whereas your army who raped over 200,000 of their women and killed more than 3 million innocent people are not the terrorists? what a hypocrite you are

remember we only covertly supported the Bengalis it was you guys who started the full out war by attacking western IAF bases
Try reading the second quoted paragraph on my post number 9 and you will understand that these figures don't sound that solid.Propaganda can be hard to back up.

Technically the Indian military support and sanctuary for East Pakistani terrorists/rebels would be considered an 'Act of War'.

Not when the actions of the Pak military caused millions of 'aliens' to migrate to India and threaten the social, demographic and economic fabric of that area.

^^^ no disrespect sir but what we did in east Pakistan is what you tried to do in Kashmir 6 years earlier in operation gibraltar whatever you may call it a spade is a spade the only thing is we were successful in our goal of ripping the Pakistani nation in half whereas you guys were unsuccessful in ripping away Kashmir from us
