It depends on how you term a camp. Re education system has been around in China since the day one from 1949, it was nothing new and exists everywhere in China, even middle school students may have to stay in one for some time if they did something really bad, Taiwan also has this 少管 system, it's nothing unique in Xinjiang.
Western media says 1 million, that's a crazy number basically mean every adult Uigur in Xinjiang and the facilities to have one million don't exist in that region.

What most people think of a concentration camp is what Nazis did to Jews and what US did to Japanese Americans.

In Chinese, concentration camp is 集中营 . Re-education class is 学习班. There are very different ideas in Chinese, even many Chinese government officials had to study in 学习班 for one or a couple of weeks when Falungong hit China hard. It was true that tens of millions were required to attend anti-Falungong classes all across China, but the result is good, China didn't plunge into chaos.

One of my friends' mother was ordered to attend an anti-Falungong class by 街道办事处 during that time.

The best way to shut up the west would be to open these camps to the public and show that these people talking about them are wrong,dont you think?

Why we have to when we know that the west is hell bent to do harms to China, China is their enemy, don't pretrend that you don't know that simple fact.

The west uses Tibet first , then Falungong and now Xinjiang to unstablise China, new tools, old tricks, we can always handle that with ease.

You and them will not shut up because Xinjiang is not going through the way you and them want.
You talk we do, and Xinjiang will become more and more better.

Xinjiang hasn't heard of any violence and terror attacks for a loooong time, the economy is booming with the highest GDP growth in all of China, people's lives just prosper by leaps and bounds, cities in Xinjiang now look rivalling any western cities in modernity. Being one of the most peaceful and safe region in China, tourism is skyrocketting, now over 30% of Xinjiang's GDP comes from tourism.

People now live in beautifully built earthquake proof houses by the government, enjoy free medicare with the access to the best hospitals with the best doctors, equipments and techniques in the whole central Asia. Chidren enjoy free 15 years education from kingdergartens to high school with free school meals, school shuttle service, medicare and accomodation.

Check out the chaos, violence and poverty around Xinjiang region outside Chinia, tell me China has failed policies in Xinjiang.
