When I was young a little boy, I was told that Asia are backward agriculture societies. The first wave was Japanese. Japan is the first nation to show to Thailand that Asia can be industrial country. When I am teen agers, its time for South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore miracles. I hope for highly advance scientific/industry for Asia to develop. That needs peace. A long peace.
Today, Asia is no more backward. At least with respect to the time I was a child. If we together jointly research/develop and try to avoid reinvent the wings every time each nations need aerospace engineering, Asia can be as advance as Europe/US. We must be in peace for a long peace.
India need to work harder. India is the kuru civilization of Thailand. I hope india can be source of knowledge as was in ancient time.
My cousin went to india to study psychology. I asked him if the knowledge is native Indian or its American books knowledge. He said it is American books.
The reason is that most of the modern sciences developed in the west, in the past few centuries. Even the Soviet Union used translated American textbooks for many sciences.
Hopefully India can advance scientifically and be second to none in future. Not just sciences and technology, but in all branches of knowledge. The good thing about Indian society in this aspect is that science and learning are very highly respected by one and all. (Hindus even have a goddess of learning, who is widely worshiped.) Culturally, traditionally and religiously learning is valued and admired. Now that we are not as dirt poor as we were at independence, I think there is a good prospect that we can improve our scientific knowledge and research base. Note that we have done very well in some areas - space, pharmaceuticals to name two. We recently sent a vehicle to Mars for less money than it cost Hollywood to make the film 'Gravity', about space!
You are right that many Asian countries need to develop and prosper. We have all the necessary conditions for that - very few wars and conflicts (unlike the middle east or Africa), mostly peaceful people and cultures, long traditions of literature and philosophy and learning, etc. This is true for India, China, and many east Asian countries. Just like Japan and especially S Korea rose so dramatically post WW2, there is tremendous potential for many other countries. And BTW the majority of humankind live in these places, so a prosperous and advanced Asia is good for humanity itself.
