What's the political legacy of John McCain and do Republican voters regret that he won't run for the presidency next year?

At this point I think McCain realizes that it's best to just be content with being a Senator and leave the GOP presidential race to Bush and Trump

Even if McCain ran for president he simply doesn't have the appeal that Trump and Bush possess. Most voters realize this I think.

I'm sorry if this is an incomplete answer, I don't follow politics that much and simply lack the knowledge required to give you a good detailed answer.

That's what we always say....he couldn't be worse than the previous prez, but they always are. I gotta give Obama credit though with the Iran deal, TPP etc. He's becoming more likeable on his way out. As far as Trump is concerned, he has no chance in hell. He's nothing but news filler.
