The primary purpose of the towed artillery is not to keep up with the troops movement but rather shoot and scoot. With present day technology, the artillery piece will be immediately vulnerable to enemy after the first round---it maybe able to fire three to five rounds before it needs to move---otherwise it will be history by the enemy fire.

Shoot and scoot term is associated with SP artillery and not with Towed artillery. it takes considerable time for a towed piece t bring from firing position to mobile position, SP artillery on the other hand, due to self contained power pack(engine), leaves the initial firing position faster to avoid counter battery fire.

You misunderstood. The point I was making was that for operations envisaged for the strike corps, you cannot rely on towed artillery for this purpose as the artillery needs to keep up with the armoured formations.

Secondly, in the indo-Pakistan theater, neither side has enough ALRs/WLRs for the above threat to be pervasive across the front. Some Artillery fire may get quick and immediate response while other may not. This issue of vulnerability of towed artillery to WLRs is different from why we cannot use it with the strike corps on the move.

Shoot and scoot in a general sense applies to both, however the bigger challenge is with the towed artillery than with SP pieces. New guns like Panther have self contained power packs as well which allow them to move rapidly after firing even though its considered a Towed gun essentially. M109s require some towing to be scooted around after firing.

Panther is a Semi SP Howitzer not a true towed one.
