ISLAMABAD - The World Bank will provide $ 840 million for the fourth extension project of Tarbela Dam, for generating 1,410 MW of electricity.
In this connection, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) and a local bank signed an agreement on Thursday to open a joint foreign account.
Federal Minister for Water and Power Khwaja Asif speaking on the occasion said the government's top priority was to pull the country out of the acute power crisis, said a press release.
He said priority is being given to short duration projects to produce low-rate electricity so people can be facilitated. This 1,410 MW project will be completed in four years.
