Woman 'Shocked' Over Headscarf Firing

I am surprised (not really) that so many peolpe are attacking this girl and making all sorts of judgemental remarks.

Just because someone is devoutly religious does not mean that they do not respect others' freedom of choice. The article specifically mentions her upbringing in a Northern California public school system -- just south of San Francisco to boot -- and it is clear she respects diversity and expects others to do the same.

The concept of a "beach look" is subjective. Since when did A&F become the arbiter of what is a legitimate "beach look"?

. .
The idiot who hired her did so out of misguided sense of 'diversity'.

Or maybe he hired her because of recommendations from her friends already working there and the fact that her dress code was not an issue for anyone. She says it was a "fun place to work". It is perfectly reasonable for a young person to want to work in a "fun place" where their friends are already working and it is common for retail stores to hire groups of friends because it creates a better working environment.

That said, am willing to bet she knew what she was doing, which is to get hired and fired because the company's culture and methods for sales are too well known.

So she got hired and was waiting around for the district manager to show up and fire her?

Riiiight...

Ever since they signed her check.

You obviously have no clue what Abercrombie and Fitch is or stands for.

Controversial Abercrombie shirts auctioned online - CNN

Abercrombie & Fitch to pull line of T-shirts

Yellowworld.org: pimped by Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie and Fitch has got to be the most racially intolerant clothing company out there. Look at their website and show me which of their clothes models is not white. Oh that's right, all of the product models are white.

.
This girl chose to work there, its her business. She did wear her headscarf to the interview. Its not like she started doing that after she got hired. They knew whats her deal is all about.

I am sure the manager at the store is more fashion conscious then the ones spewing hate about her. If the manager had the capacity to hire her, she has a good case.

.
Ever since they signed her check.

Wrong.

When they started operating a business in Foster City, they agreed to abide by local, state and federal equal employment laws. A subjective assessment of "looks policy" is not a licence to circumvent those laws.

So you are saying that A&F is essentially a clothing company "by whites, for whites"?. Still, just because they have been allegedly discriminating all this time is no reason to let them continue to do so.

Did you bother to read through this thread? I think it is quite clear what my point was/is.

I read some of your posts. You are being judgemental and imposing your views on her. Clearly, she doesn't see the world through an intolerant religious prism as you seem to.

You seem surprised that a "religious" person would want to work in a place selling pork or sexy clothing. If it doesn't bother her, who are you to tell her otherwise?

.
I don't know what's worse ( well I know but just saying). The girl being fired by a bigoted company or men here proclaiming to where a Muslim girl should work at. Expecting equal rights is not just reserved for certain job sites...

I'm not imposing any beliefs on anyone. All I said is that if you are working somewhere that is known to sell things that go against your personal beliefs, don't go crying home to mommy when you have to do something you don't want to.

Yeah Muslimah's are evil con-artists that way, she was too clever to take up a job in this economy as part of her master plan!

She has no problems selling these things to people who want to buy them. She is not imposing her beliefs on her customers. She even wore "beach attire" at the store -- t-shirts, jeans, thongs. Even her headscarf was in approved company colors.

The only issue here is a subjective assessment by some individuals that headscarfs do not belong on the beach. This is just silly because even western women wear a headscarf on the beach on windy days.

Maybe this will help:

Abercrombie & Fitch - Shop Official Site

Official A&F homepage ^

Look at the homepage for their clothing, and tell me if that looks like a place a devout Muslim girl would work.

Religion is a personal thing, you can be as religious or lets say however spiritual as you wanted to. Otherwise whats the difference between you and the Mullah forcing people to sport a beard or forcing the girls into burkhas. You simply have no right to ask that question.

.
They should ban all religious symbols at public places. That will make things simple.
