I believe it's kind of hard to sell any property in Syria or Iraq right now. There are already talks that some rich Arabic states and US are financing this in order to destabilize the Europe. I am not someone to believe in conspiracies, but when someone from middle of nowhere in let's say central Africa spends like 10-15000 euros to reach Germany or France, you kinda have to ask yourself where the hell did he get that money from.
Might be by selling their entire properties .
Human smuggling is a multi billion dollar business, It involves international crime syndicates, Drug mafia, some terror organization like the LTTE, Who owns foreign flagged ships, Well funded INGO's Human rights orgs (Amnesty, HRW), Immigration lawyers in destination capitals hired by those INGO's, Local politicians lobbied by the funds in Western capitals, Influential Diaspora groups, liberal media in the West etc..
Speaking from experience from Sri Lankan perspective on bogus Tamil refugee's in Australia is that the INGO's and Diaspora groups actually fund these people to pay the Smugglers and they pay the immigration lawyers and take care of other legal fee's as well, And atmost times they find these people menial jobs as well, Most at convenient stores and gas stations often owned by those at the helm of the same diaspora groups.. Inturn once these economic migrants are given refugee status they're bound to payback these organizations at these jobs with interest and they're bound to support those groups politically, often by force
It's a vicious cycle but a very profitable one.. At the end of the day it's all about money and power
