With America No Longer A 'Friend,' Angela Merkel Looks To China As New Partner

German Chancellor Angela Merkel may no longer consider the U.S. under President Donald Trump a “friend,” but the European leader is finding a willing new partner in a different, and perhaps unexpected, global superpower: China.




She added that Germany and China could work together to “calm” the world’s unrest. “It is a great pleasure for us to welcome you here today at a time of turmoil in the world, when China and Germany can make a contribution to calming down this turmoil somewhat,” Merkel said, according to the Associated Press.


Analysts say Trump’s tensions with Merkel and the German chancellor’s willingness to embrace China fits neatly with the Asian superpower’s owns ambitions.


″t fits into the Chinese idea of creating an alternative leadership to the United States,” she added.

On Wednesday, Merkel and Xi shared a packed day of activities, opening a $10 million panda enclosure at the Berlin Zoo and watching a German-Chinese youth soccer match.

China doesn't impose Either-Or on its relationship with other countries. China doesn't view international relationships are zero-sum games. A country with can have a friendly relationship with China can still have friendly relationship with other countries. Like, China have good relationship with Israel and Palestine, North Korea and South Korea, and Russia and Ukraine..etc.

There are large number of videos in YouTube about western talking about living in China. One thing they all agree is , China is very safe. Countries align based on skin color, not abstract ideologies. That's why the 5-eyes alliance is only composed of white Anglo countries and India is not allowed to join even though it's also an 'English-speaking democracy'. Same reason why India can't join the UNSC.

China and Germany have many shared interests which have helped to promote this budding strategic relationship, but the similarity of our complexions cannot be discounted as a catalyst for cooperation.

Talking about internet censorship, China is not alone. I know Iran also blocks youtube. China and Iran, one thing is in common: Both are regarded as potential enemies by the west. I heard the movie "Slumdog Millionaire" was banned in India cause it was titled as "anti-India". China is facing hundred times more anti-China propaganda every day. Compared to China, India is an ignorable target of western propaganda campaign. Your government didn't do internet censorship not because you are freer than China, but because you are lucky that China plays a windbreak role in front of India.
