China failed to win the women's Aerials gold medal at the Sochi Winter Olympic Games Friday as world champion Xu Mengtao had to settle for silver and two-time Olympic runner-up Li Nina finished fourth.
It was the fourth silver China has won in the women's aerials as Li Nina took the silver in the past two Winter Olympics and Xu Nannan finished second in 1998 Winter Olympics.

Norway Curling Team - their design to make you dizzy even before the match!:(
Credit: media.salon.com

Our boys faced the first defeat yesterday. We were up against 2 strong teams, the 3rd ranked Sweden and 4th ranked Norway, in session 7 of qualification rounds, with mixed fortunes.

We were narrowly beaten by Sweden 5-6. The match was tightly contested. It came to a draw at 5-5 at the 10th End. We lost by 1 point in the extra End.

We were resilient however, after losing in the first match of the day, we were able to beat Norway 7-5!

With these results, we are sharing the pole positions with Sweden and Great Britian which all have the same 5 wins and 1 loss record so far. But the rest of the schedule lines up with all difficult teams with the home favourite Russia, the no. 1 ranked Sweden and the 2nd ranked Great Britian all determine to gain the maximum points obviously for qualifications into the next round - the semi-finals

3 billion people watched Sochi opening ceremony

February 12, 2014

The opening ceremony of the Winter Games drew quite an audience worldwide.

The International Olympic Committee says that 3 billion people tuned in to the ceremony on Friday night.

That included a record 43 million in host country Russia, where the Games became the most-watched sporting event ever.

Some of those viewers watched on a tape delay, with about 33 percent of all Russians tuning in live.

The Games averaged 31.7 million viewers in the United States, according to Nielsen.

Pakistan's only candidate at Sochi on his skiing passion

Pakistan's sole representative at this year's Winter Olympics at Sochi is gearing up for the Giant Slalom competition.

Muhammad Karim, 16, grew up in Pakistan's remote northern region of Gilgit-Baltistan and taught himself to ski without proper equipment. His parents could not afford it, so he started off with home-made wooden ski poles, when he was just five.

He told the BBC: ''I think of every skiing competition as my last competition. That way, I ensure that I give it my best.''
