Wikileaks Diplomatic Cables

Saudi Arabia hate Iran and Turkey, SA feel uncomfortable by their influences. Unknown reasons.

Pakistan should cut ties with S.Arabia to shut down extremists and other terrors. Cut off SA's head of the snake!

an unrealistic and counter-productive proposal........we'd lose worker remmitance earnings, trade, and a pro-Pakistan ''lobby''

''hate'' isnt the smart choice of word.......call it rivalry due to diverging strategic interest.

While the Saudis may feel uncomfortable about Turkiye's rising clout in the region, i doubt they have any major animosity or rivalry --despite some ''bad history'' prior to the fall of the Ottoman Khilafat

Abou... this ignorant bunch know nothing but it is alright to comment the way you did but remember our religious affairs minister Shia by faith has already triggered diplomatic row with Saudi govt.
This was in pipeline.
I'm much more suspicious about Tehran's role... who always have insulted about Pakistan in his state controlled media.
Before forming any opinion, ask our diplomats in tehran what poison Tehran has been reporting to their public since revolution.

our ministers and all those serving Pakistan and the "servees" should keep Pakistan's interest first in all realms of life

US trying to remove enriched Pak uranium: WikiLeaks

WASHINGTON: US diplomatic cables released on Sunday show that since 2007 the United States has been engaged in a secret effort to remove highly enriched uranium from a Pakistani research reactor. According to the documents released by a whistle-blowing website called Wiki-Leaks, the US administration authorised this effort because American officials feared the material could be diverted for use in an illicit nuclear device.

One cable quotes Saudi King Abdullah as saying that President Asif Ali Zardari was “the greatest obstacle” to Pakistan’s progress. “When the head is rotten,” he said, “it affects the whole body”.

In May 2009, US Ambassador Anne W. Patterson reported to the State Department that Pakistan was refusing to schedule a visit by American technical experts because, as a Pakistani official said, “if the local media got word of the fuel removal they certainly would portray it as the United States taking Pakistan’s nuclear weapons”.

Cables sent by the US Embassy in Islamabad to the State Department also talk of “grave fears in Washington and London over the security of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons programme” amid the country’s growing instability.

They depict the Obama administration struggling to sort out which Pakistanis are trustworthy partners against Al Qaeda, and “assessing whether a lurking rickshaw driver in Lahore was awaiting fares or conducting surveillance of the road to the American Consulate”.

WikiLeaks, a site devoted to leaking government documents, apparently received hundreds of thousands of US diplomatic cables from an anti-war activist who got access to the secret files due to a glitch in the computer system.

The US government, however, warned WikiLeaks not to release the documents.

On Saturday, State Department’s Legal Adviser Harold Hongju Koh sent a letter to WikiLeaks chief Julian Assange, warning him that the release of approximately 250,000 secret documents would have “grave consequences” and place at risk the lives of journalists, human rights activists and soldiers. Mr Assange had earlier asked the State Department for information on any individuals who may be “at significant risk of harm” by the disclosure. Earlier on Sunday, WikiLeaks released a Twitter message, saying: “We are currently under a mass distributed denial of service attack” but said that some of the world’s major newspapers — such as El Pais, Le Monde, Speigel, The Guardian and The New York Times — will publish many US embassy cables, even if WikiLeaks went down.

And by Sunday afternoon (Washington time), all these news outlets published their versions of the leak, ignoring stern warning they too had received from the State Department.

They reported that more than 250,000 US embassy cables released by WikiLeaks “reveal previously secret information on American intelligence gathering, and political and military strategy”.

The release “catapulted the United States into a worldwide diplomatic crisis”, noted the Guardian. Many of these classified cables were sent as recently as February this year.

Attack on Iran

The documents show that Arab leaders are privately urging an air strike on Iran and that US officials have been instructed to spy on the UN’s leadership. The cables also talk about a major shift in relations between China and North Korea, and details of clandestine US efforts to combat Al Qaeda in Yemen. Disclosures that both the Guardian and the NYT believe can cause a major diplomatic uproar include:

— Alleged links between the Russian government and organised crime.

— Devastating criticism of the UK’s military operations in Afghanistan.

— Claims of inappropriate behaviour by a member of the British royal family.

— Serious political criticisms of David Cameron to requests for specific intelligence about individual MPs.

— Specific allegations of corruption against world leaders.

— Harsh criticism by US embassy staff of their host governments.

The material includes a reference to Vladimir Putin as an “alpha-dog”, Hamid Karzai as being “driven by paranoia” and German Chancellor Angela Merkel as someone who “avoids risk and is rarely creative”.

One cable compares Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with Adolf Hitler.

The cables name countries involved in financing terror groups, and describe a near “environmental disaster” last year over a rogue shipment of enriched uranium.

They disclose technical details of secret US-Russian nuclear missile negotiations in Geneva, and include a profile of Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi, who they say is accompanied everywhere by a “voluptuous blonde” Ukrainian nurse. The cables cover Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s activities under the Obama administration, as well as thousands of files from the George Bush presidency.

The cables reveal how the US uses its embassies as part of a global espionage network, with diplomats tasked to obtain not just information from the people they meet, but personal details, such as frequent flyer numbers, credit card details and even DNA material.

Classified “human intelligence directives” issued in the name of Hillary Clinton or her predecessor, Condoleezza Rice, instruct officials to gather information on military installations, weapons markings, vehicle details of political leaders as well as iris scans, fingerprints and DNA.

The most controversial target was the leadership of the United Nations. That directive requested the specification of telecoms and IT systems used by top UN officials and their staff and details of “private VIP networks used for official communication, to include upgrades, security measures, passwords, personal encryption keys”.

One cable shows that when Afghanistan’s vice-president visited the United Arab Emirates last year, local authorities working with the Drug Enforcement Administration discovered that he was carrying $52 million in cash.

Speaking to an Iraqi official about Nuri Kamal al-Maliki, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Saudi King Abdullah says: “You and Iraq are in my heart, but that man is not.”

Some cables claim that Saudi donors remain the chief financiers of militant groups like Al Qaeda, and the tiny Persian Gulf state of Qatar, a generous host to the American military for years, was the “worst in the region” in counter-terrorism efforts.

A country hit by nuclear terror would be apt to retaliate by striking ALL probable sources of such terror. N.K. definitely is on the list, and probably Iran. Now Pakistan could be added.
WHAT makes you think that a country bearing Nukes would not retaliate in return of those strikes .. ?

No, corruption exists, but it is NOT "an essential factor of how things work in the US". The U.S. is, as Harry Truman wrote, the most successful system of government mankind has ever invented. The rule-of-law prevails here, and it limits the powerful as well as protecting the powerless; corruption is often discovered and the guilty party convicted and sent to jail. And when it comes to nuclear materials, law enforcement and physical tracking are very tight.

No corruption is an essential Part of How things work in US. It protects the top 5% for which folks like you Boast about.Nobody beats the innovative forms of corruption done in US.And much of it is done through Media. But thanks to some sane people in US who dont really get carried away with all those False Media Reports.

WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THAT IF THE U.S. SUFFERED NUCLEAR TERRORISM IT COULD POSSIBLY ATTIRBUTE TO PAKISTAN THE U.S. WOULD PAUSE TO ASK PAKISTAN TO DISARM BEFORE RETALIATING?

No, I imagine a nation would be asked to disarm after the U.S. retaliated. And if the U.S. was refused, then in a little while all that remained of that nation would be ruins and memories.
What if the US Bombs that country and later finds out that the culprit was someone else or it was based on BAD Intel in case of IRAQI WMDs where it actually did happened and the WAR CRIMINALS STILL ROAM ALOOF. If thats not corruption and misleading then what else can it be termed as ?
What if that BOMBD country had hidden NUKES and could launch them on ALL US's Allies and thus destroying its regional interests..??
Com-on Solmon2 we r not here to discuss Dooms Day Scenarios...!

hey new bee! I see you live in US!

are you with us or against us?

Wikileaks is CIA's new age experiment in mass yellow journalism to decive public opinion and forge wide spread perceptions. This phy-op is remarkable in a sense that neither source nor destination know that they are being ployed by the CIA. They think they are doing a priceless service to the mankind while in effect being mere puppets indirectly controlled by a chain of carefully crafted deliberate information leaks by anonymous middle men.

Got it in one!

This whole wikileaks is a deliberate disinformation campaign by the US administration. Notice how all the leaks about the US and its allies are mostly innocuous. The really damaging 'leaks' are all about America's enemies:

- Deepen mistrust amonst Muslims
- Accuse China of officially support cyber attacks
- Show Pakistan as paranoid about nuclear matters

Am looking for stuff on India. Not much yet.

There won't be anything too damaging. India is the darling for now and this disinformation campaign is not targetted at India.

^ agree
althou few of these leaks are shocking but frankly am not expecting any immediate diplomatic fall outs between diff governments, but yeah public opinion will surely turn against or in favor of few...

American diplomat Jeanne Kirkpatrick drew a distinction between authoritarian regimes and totalitarian ones. Authoritarian regimes which rule by force such as Franco's Spain can evolve over time into democratic ones; totalitarian regimes which attempt to rule people's thoughts like the Soviet Union or post-1979 Iran cannot. What route do you think Zia chose?
It is your misconception .

I was in theater not long time ago to see "Ah Carmella" the story of artist being killed under Franco's regime. It was a terrible regime. Just update your knowledge about it. I am living in Toulouse and the president of republicans is dead here. Many came here to escape the fascists.

But the difference for you: USA didn't care Spain fascism but they care for Soviet union . Thats maybe what you make a difference especially for Iran exemple.

Iran: 79 was the revolution. People choosed IRI by referendum.
They really believed i this republic. Then fast came the war and of course it was a hell in Iran.
There was the reformist presidency under Khatami : a period you cannot put in totalitarian regime. Totalitarian is when Khamenei put his puppet Ahmadinejad because he didn't like the way reformist wanted to change the country.
The reformist had good relations with Lebanon, Saudi, only US didn't understand Iran was changing for good. It is like you prefer us to have a dictator.

What do you think about Israel saying that they want Iran to be like Iraq "a weak country divided in sunnis, shias and kurds"?

Just found this article regarding India in the wikileaks cables:

Turkey did not invite India for meet on Afghanistan to appease Pak: WikiLeaks

India was deliberately kept out of the Turkey-sponsored meeting on Afghanistan earlier this year to address the “sensitivities” of Pakistan, according to the documents released by WikiLeaks.

Reflecting Islamabad’s insistence at every international fora that New Delhi be kept out of any meeting on Afghanistan, a top Turkish diplomat told U.S. officials early this year that India was kept out to address the concerns of Pakistan, WikiLeaks said.

At a meeting with the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, William Burns, Rauf Engin Soysal, who then was the Turkey’s Deputy Under-Secretary for Bilateral Political Affairs responsible for the Middle East, South Asia and Africa, said Turkey had not invited India to the Afghan neighbours summit in deference to Pak sensitivities.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Afghan President Hamid Karzai met in Istanbul for a Turkish—sponsored talks to discuss cooperation against extremists in Afghanistan earlier this year.

“He (Soysal) said Turkey had not invited India to the neighbours summit in deference to Pakistani sensitivities; however, he claimed, Pakistan understands attempting to exclude India from the nascent South Asian regional structures would be a mistake,” says the confidential State Department cable dated February 25, 2010.

Mr. Soysal, a former Turkish Ambassador to the Pakistan from 2007 to 2009, and his country’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan in September was appointed by the U.N. Secretary General, Ban Ki—moon, as the Special Envoy for Assistance to Pakistan.

“He (Soysal) reported Indian Prime Minister Singh had requested (Turkish) President Gul’s assistance with Pakistan during the latter’s visit to New Delhi the previous week.

Acting on that request, Gul had phoned Pakistani President Zardari, who was sceptical of Indian intentions. Gul is planning to visit Pakistan later this year,” the cable said.

“Soysal said Iran is proposing a quadrilateral summit, which would include Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan, but that proposal had yet to generate enthusiasm,” it said.

Mr. Soysal, according to the cable, said the Pakistani military, though displeased with the President, Asif Ali Zardari, remains unwilling to intervene; nevertheless, senior officers’ patience may not be infinite.

“Zardari needs to increase the democratic legitimacy of Parliament. Soysal offered. Nawaz Sharif has become a much more constructive player,” said the State Department cable as released by WikiLeaks.
