I do feel sorry for you guys. I really do despite our differences on this forum. So many of your countrymen came to the US and experienced the freedoms, physical and psychological, they admitted they do not and cannot have back in China. Yes, the US does have problems. We are not perfect and never claimed to be. The list of what I done? It is not that you cannot do them in China. It is that you are obsessed with the technological growth and deluded yourself into believing that shiny technology is the final arbiter of human happiness. It is YOU who needs help.

I didn't feel more freedom in US than here in China, what freedom do I average person like me go after? I just live my normal life in both US or China. The only different I strongly feel is China is much much safer than US, I don't have to worry about being robbed or shot when venturing out at night.

Barely 30 years ago Beijing was the only city which had the subways in China, just one line and is very short. Now almost all China first, second and even third tier cities have massive subway systems which Shanghai and Beijing rank No.1 and No.2 in the world in length, while in US, rats still run around in the New York subway where piss smell is forever present and tracks look like sewage tunnels.

30 years ago there was not even one highway in China, now China's highway length is far ahead of any others on this planet, What US has been doing except for waging wars around the world?

Many people are marvelled at how advanced US fighters or carriers are, but what do those weapon do you use everyday when you go to work and come back home even if you are an American, what do those weapons have anything to do with your daily life and commute?

At the beginning of the century, only one in 10 Chinese students returned to China after studying abroad. In 2017, it was eight in 10.

Lol I am just a liar because no Chinese ever wants to go back to China from the US. I don't buy your sources fact is no Chinese with a bit of education in the US or working here will ever go back. You may be one of those loser who couldn't stay due to other reasons. China can build what it wants but people will never have that freedom to decide what they want in their life. I think it is because there is not much Urban - Rural divide in the US. And population centers in the US are not concentrated on one region say West Coast. It is distributed almost evenly in the entire United States.

In comparison, Chinese population centers are towards the East and there is a clear Urban - Rural divide. Also, China is almost 5 times as densely populated as the US. Clearly China needs such mass transit systems.

Also, the US airline industry is very important in this regard. It is and will remain the fastest means of travel in the US. Air fare is relatively cheap too.

So, if US were to implement a bullet train system like China, it'll be a huge waste of money. The only thing US needs to improve is their metro system.

America's appeal lies mainly in high wages, not in freedom. The average income of the United States is five times that of China and twice that of China's coastal areas.

If you think that China is not free and many Chinese are reluctant to return home for that, then you can't explain why some Chinese living in Europe generally return home to work after finishing education.

Of course, what I am talking about here is the primary developed countries in Europe which are not much better than the mainland of China.

Did it ever occur to you that in many places in the US we simply don't care about train travel anymore? high speed or not? We would much rather just hop in our SUVs or cars and just go where we want to on our own time. That may be hard for you to swallow but it's reality here.
