Why students in Pakistan's schools and colleges are scared of studying science

Even the graduate courses were taught in Chinese, with English publications as reference.

The Chinese scientists and engineers who come to Pakistan to teach their Pakistani counterparts bring a translator as they cannot speak English.

A while back i met a Chinese girl here who worked at a textile research institute in Taiwan. I asked her what language they do their research in and she replied in Chinese.

.
Because one must learn mother tongue first to build s foreign language foundation.

How does one read the most recent research papers which are not translated ? How do you publish research paper for peer review who do not understand Chinese ?

Most researchers have certain level of English proficiency, as English is a required course through out high school and undergraduate years. They publish their papers in English.

Then Pakistani scientists and teachers are doing excellent in big names in the USA and EU. They don't need interpreters.

Yes, in some countries, if you are studying science at university level, English is a compulsory course as a foreign language. The subject itself is not taught in English.

For engineers and researchers, speaking and listening English are not as important as reading and writing. So you can see many Chinese scientists who can read and write English like a pro, but can't speak English beyond simple conversation.

So are scientists from virtually every other country. So what?

Yes, they are educated in their own language with English as a foreign language. It hasn't stopped them from becoming world leaders in technology.

Students complain to their universities when they don't understand strong accents of their foreign teachers. Students pay a lot of money here to study. Those teachers eventually get sacked.

No, you don't need English to teach science and technology. All courses in my engineering school were taught in Chinese.

Sir, I am science student and always I look up something in Urdu, I end up finding the same word is used in English. Some languages share many terms and/or words and which make it easy to translate. But, Urdu is very different than English and it is hard to translate it into Urdu or vice versa.

Sir Urdu is totally different language than English and there are many many and so many words which can't be translated into Urdu. I can give you a list of words.
There is kind of an obvious solution to this problem. Borrow words from Arabic. If you read Urdu medium maths and science books you will find many of the technical terms borrowed from Arabic. Now whether we should borrow terms from Arabic, English or Latin is a another debate in itself

No they don't. Nasa and google are full of Korean and Chinese scientists.

And we don't train people for other countries. We train them for our own.

For almost every scientific and technical terms in English, there is a standard Chinese translation, almost always by its meaning rather than by the sound of it. I understand it would be much more difficult finding science materials in Urdu than in English.

My curiosity makes me look it up in Urdu. :p

I find this interesting, admittedly I am no expert. I simply cannot understand why every language in the world can translate words effectively and Urdu can't. Is your language that useless?

For example Turkey educates its children in , surprise, surprise, Turkish. All the scientific words are translated, not just copied. For example the Turkish word for 'computer' is a Turkish word, not just 'computer'.

I don't understand why they can do it and you can't.
