The problem with Pakistani's and Indian's is that they think the world is as stupid they are .. In world Geopolitics no one abandoned anyone its just matter of self interest , relationships made and broken over time , but as we both Indians and Pakistani's can never think about the bigger picture as we think from our tiny Obsessed brains .

Putin is a patriotic man. For him, nothing is above the motherland. In my opinion, Russia will never leave India. However, it doesn't mean Russia won't make new friends that can benefit Russia. China played an incredible role to bring Russia and Pakistan close.
Trump is trying to normalize relations with Russia so they can pressurize China. As long as Russia and China support each other, Pakistan will be crucial for Russia. Russia would love to take US to the cleaners in Afghanistan. For that Pakistan is important. Russia knows it very well. India can hurt its relation with Russia if they get too close to US.

It's also possible Russia will utilize Chabahar when its operational. The key is Russia has options on getting warm water access other than Pakistan.
