Arabs have had their own countries for a long time. Nothing stopping them from uniting.

Maybe it never happened because noone important considered it to be a good idea?

I would say that there is overwhelming majority public support for a EU style union among Arab League states, but some rulers do not want it, because they think that they may loose their family fiefdoms and the power and privilege that goes with it.
