Bragging by itself is not bad.
Bragging without doing is bad.

oh I do know, but I dont think you understand the point. I sure do read alot articles from Vietnam, yes some exaggerate but that is nothing more or less to draw attention and to promote image of a country or an entity. All countries do that. You need to face the truth, Viet Nam also likes to brag as much as China (funny both countries always consider themselves to be humble, e.g. "less talk, more action"). Maybe you are an oversea Vietnamese and so don't know much.
Vietnamese media LOVE to brag when there is something slightly positive. Good PISA results? It will be all over the news. If some foreign experts say something slightly positive about Viet Nam? All over the news. If Vietnamese Soccer team played a good game? Vietnamese media will brag like VN is the best. Sometime, Vietnamese media will even tell lies just to brag. Latest example is that a lot of Vietnamese media boasted that VN soccer team played so well in Seagames that the head Thai coach was so scared that he had to fly to Singapore. The truth was, the head Thai coached stayed in Thailand all this time (and Thailand easily beat VN) @somsak can maybe confirm this. Khong the tin noi.
Maybe you are overseas so you dont know.
Actually you can see this clearly in this forum. Chinese members and one or two Vietnamese members love to post pics of buildings, roads, bridges, phones, good test results from China and Vietnam. And they keep saying they never brag . Ask @mike2000 is back , he will tell you the truth.
Im Viet and I'm just telling the truth. The difference I see in this forum is that only about 5% of the Viet members here brag or constantly post positive news about VN. The rest tend to stay quiet unless provoked.
Couldn't agree more bro. You said it all. However we shouldn't blame Chinese , Vietnamese, and Indians on here for bragging so much. since all of them are developing countries who were until recently backward impoverished isolated nations . It's only recently starting from the 80s that they opened up and things started changing for their people.
As i said before, of all the Asian countries i have been to, Japanese are still by far the most humble people, even though ironically they are still the most advanced /developed country in Asia (they have been for over a century now) having been the first to industrialised /develop in the region. Reason i understand why they do they dont care much /brag much. They really do talk less and do more. When a poor man becomes suddenly rich /wealthy, his behavior will be different from someone who has been wealthy for a longgggg time/born wealthy . But we shouldn't mix ultra nationalistic Chinese members on here with the more humble common civilian ones . So there you have your answer.
So youre saying he issignificant.

however I do see boasting about your achivements and putting down others is wrong. There are Vietnamese in here and I do not see any having superity complex as Chinese do. What Chinese in here do is often boasting their achivements and putting down others, and or think they are the world best already. Like finish the West, monkey SEA.
Promoting self image, sharing achievement and bragging about yourself are two different things.
Promoting/elevating urself VS boasting/bragging about urself are two different thing. Certainly it is recommended to promote and elevate your self when youre on Job interviews. Bragging and boasting is often think of urself as best already and other are insignificant regardless if you raeally the best still does not convine no one. I assume Chinese Vietnamse learnt from that western,by trying to promote themselves it is just some nationalsits Understand it wrong that. Maybe try to look at how western company promote their products, they often use big words for their products like Guaranteed, Top Rate, 5 star...etc. Vietnamese recently learn that kind of marketing from the west.Oh putting down others or insulting other people is a whole different issue. Remember people with superiority complex are just acting that way to compensate for something they are lacking. They are not to be taken seriously. Sorry if I misunderstood your post.
I dont consider this as bragging, more like silly stupid journalist. Many Vietnamese journalists or Vietnamese in general lack of world knowledge. They dont simply know, western culture tend to raise something as part of politeness though what they said far for truth. when you talk to westerners they may say something good in front of you, in their head they may think you a piece of crap. Their culture is very self fish, and center themselves and their families.Look at how this Vietnamese article brag. They asked one random Irish guy watching the game whether a Vietnamese football player can play in Europe. The random guy said yeah he can play for Chelsea and ManU (probably out of politeness). The Vietnamese journalist then wrote a bragging article with the title "Cong Phuong has the talent to play for Chelsea and Man U."
Công Phượng đủ 'trình' chơi bóng ở Chelsea, Man United | soha.vn
This Soha news is so boastful and dumb.
First of all if you differentiate reactionary responses towards troll probably you will see a lot less bragging. Moreover, changes are happening everyday in the world and especially in fast changing countries like contemporary China, so naturally more there are news (and discussions, analysis) showing up on the web. And if you don't like any positive threads about China, even those fact-based, data-supported and objective ones, rather than label them as "bragging" you might as well ignore and attend only to the negative ones whether they are supported by fact/data or not.
During most of the the times in the past few millenia China has been advanced/rich/wealthy, only until two centuries ago China began to loose her competition on modernization to the once backward, impoverished and isolated nations. You are right, China had been advanced/rich/wealthy for long enough, and hence shouldn't brag about any recent changes, however positive or big they might be, because these are nothing more than reclaiming lost position, lost wealth, that belong to China in the first place.
P.S.: Off topic, though UK is becoming less relevant in global economy and geopolitics, China and UK do have a lot of constructive collaborations in infrastructure, tech, energy and even RMB internationalization, look forward to strengthening China-UK ties. Cheers!
Absolutely true, Europeans got their wealth thanks to robbing from their colonies. China had always been an extremely rich country in the past millenias. Our country was always the center of the Asian continent and the most influential one. Mikey boy here always like to emphasize the Chinese as the bragging ones and the Japanese never brag. As much as he enjoy cheering for Japan as being humble, our comments are backed by facts. Chinese have every reason to be proud at our achievements whether it's from the ancient past or in modern time.
Face it UK is not as influential as it once was during the British Empire era, it's becoming less significant. I know it's a hard pill to swallow but he has to swallow it anyway. The past 200 years was a disaster for China but we are catching up and simply returning to the rightful spot in the arena. While we still have a long way to go before reaching Western standards no other country has achieved what China has done in the past 3 decades: double digit growth, lifting mass of the population out of poverty, surpassed many countries and reaching the #2 economy spot. Now how many countries can claim such achievements? NONE

I'm impressed to see a Vietnamese like you is honest about saying the negatives he find in his country. Not many people on here are bold enough to that . They will rather support /cleanse any negative news about their country even when they know it's wrong. Lol
Kudos to you bro. You have my respect.
