It happens, mostly sold at cheaper rates than straight donation, specifically when it involves expensive metals/alloys, and not broken motherboards/chips.

But about trashed stuff, we gotta check the economic viability when shipping or recycling. Shipping a water filled trashed car to India/Bangladesh would be more expensive than building one in these countries.

Yes indeed, the recent incident throws at us this very fundamental question. It has to go way back into the roots of the cultural bind and also to do with their religious beliefs and principles of Buddhism. Most of them I know, have a deep respect to others and elders and have deep family ties. It is this family bonding that inculcates mutual respect amongst most Japanese. Children are taught these principles from their childhood and by the time they are mature, they understand that everyone has a responsibility towards their society.

After WWII, most Japanese understood the importance of working together as a team towards building a better society. Once you have a better society, you can tackle all other adversities that may come upon you.

This is how social skill are bred with communities. It is part of their DNA now to actually be human beings while the rest of select few races are breeding themselves into the animal kingdom.
