Why is there no looting in Japan?

The Sichuan earthquake in 2008 had claimed the lives of 300,000 innocent civilians including 100,000 children. However Western aid and media coverage were very limited and nothing compared to the massive US and western aid and media coverage of the Japanese earthquake. In Sichuan also there was no looting and death toll is 30 times than that of the Japanese quake. Massive flooding had killed thousand in the aftermath of the Sichuan quake. Help from PLA soldiers had been much impressive and only a few countries had sent aid. However all these had come unnoticed just like the heroic achievements of the Chinese people and PLA soldiers and rapid mobilization of the Chinese Government mainly due to the lack of Western media coverage.

Because any damage to China is cause for celebration by Westerners and especially hardcore racists in US, Japan and South Korea.

Especially South Koreans were cheering when news of the earthquake came.

It does not matter what other countries did when some countries were hit with natural calamities.

If some people find cheer when natural calamities hit other countries, then one can only say that those who cheer are not real human beings and have no heart and the grace and human piety to share the agony of those affected.

There is no precedence anywhere where there has not been looting after a natural disaster except Japan.

No one is criticizing the Japanese for not stealing/looting and missing out on a golden opportunity. It is an example brought forth to help people relate with and act accordingly if they find themselves in similar situations.

The vast majority of Japanese from officers to civilians would've fought to the death in ww2 or rather die of a nuclear holocaust than to surrender to the Americans. In hindsight japan did the right thing by surrendering.

major corporation CEOs in japan are embarrassed if word gets out that they are making "too much money"... can you find that humbleness from your average American, Indian, chinese CEO. of course there are the likes of bill gates who does the noble thing of giving billions away.


americans are reflecting on this and sure enough they are comparing the aftermath to what happened in katrina and hatti. and on cue the it becomes a racial thing.

The great civility that the Japanese people have demonstrated so far in this natural disaster has been truly commendable.

But let’s not get too carried away extrapolating this aspect into military and economic behavioral patterns as the core virtue. You will open up a huge can of whoopass going there.

As far as the "rampant" greed based behaviors in other countries go, come on really. Japan’s Foreign Minister just resigned for “unknowingly” taking contributions as many numerous other high ranking government officials before him have done due to similar offense. I don't recall any of them committing suicide out of honor or shame. Let’s not even get started on their private sectors for now.

In real life, most chinease I have met are very humble and polite too. We Indians unnecessarily go after them here.
I think we should look east and learn from east asian culture too.

We need to but our politicians are holding us down....they don;t educate the masses, they give the illusion of law and order, and don;t do hit to alleviate poverty, I mean sincere real effort is needed. Politics has become another way to mint money. India needs honorable public servants...

I like to say there is karma (but that's just me), but it also comes down to how aware you can be of yourself and your actions, and to be able to think far enough down the track the consequences of your actions.

I would like to think that one eventually reaps what they sow. If not this then as another combination.
