Why is there a massive Zinc Deficiency in India & Pakistan

I guess Zinc deficiency explains a lot of problems that I see in Pakistan at least.

there is a whole lot of difference between the teachers in pakistan and the teachers in the west. despite having brilliant minds we are way behind the developed world in education and health sectors.
