Why is the US constantly sowing discord in South ChinaSea?
February 05, 2015

The US 7th Fleet Commander Robert Thomas recently stated that the United States would welcome a Japanese extension of air patrols into the South China Sea. The Pentagon subsequently expressed support for this statement and said this would help to maintain stability in the South China Sea.

We all know the South China Sea is not peaceful. In recent decades, several countries surrounding the region have been eroding Chinese territory and violating China's economic rights and interests in the region.

Meanwhile, the United States pushes its 'rebalancing' strategy in the Asia-Pacific region and expands its military presence in the region . For some time, the Unites States has not only conducted close surveillance over China, but also expanded its alliances and partnerships in the region.

The Unites States is an obvious agitator in the South China Sea disputes, which would be resolved through direct negotiation without US interference.

Senior US military officials and officials of the Department of Defense are now encouraging Japan to get involved in South China Sea affairs Their objectives are as follows:

First, by expanding the internationalization of the South China Sea, to exert more international pressure on China; second, through a joint show of force by the United States and Japan, to upgrade the deterrent to China; third, sending a signal to the other parties involved that they have no need to rely on diplomatic means to seek mutual benefits; they can depend on the interference of the United States.

The United States has nothing more to offer than continued dominance in East Asia. It appears to take the view that neither China nor any of the other countries which are actually located in this region are entitled to develop rules that apply there. China only seeks to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests of national sovereignty, and does not seek any special entitlements. The South China Sea has historically belonged to China, and its neighboring countries have accepted that as a fact in the past.

The United States has repeatedly encouraged Japan to patrol in the region, an indication that it hopes to take advantage of the Sino-Japanese conflict to hinder independent consultations between China and the ASEAN countries.

In the name of regional stability, the United States is sowing discord in the South China Sea. It will not succeed in its attempts to dominate the region, and the East Asian countries should realize that achieving regional development and security depend on cooperation.

"The South China Sea has historically belonged to China, and its neighboring countries have accepted that as a fact in the past."
when will chinese clowns ever stop spreading lies and propaganda?
the US is here to stay, so Japan.

.
That is because people, mostly Chinese here, refused to believe the US has been and will continue to be part of Asia, unless the American relinquish control of Guam and pretty much all West Pacific territories.

Most Chinese read that as a threat. Most other asian country read it as counter balance, but for Americans, its nothing more than a transit route from West Pacific to south Pacific or Northern Asia. Nothing more

The sooner the Chinese accelt the US are here to stay, the sooner the rhetoric will die down. But if China continue to be at the current way, it will only further driven away and strain Asian Pacific Relationship

US is here to stay, China will increase their presence in the area.
No one really 'care' except Vietnam and Philippine for their own internal political consumption.

It is China who is sowing discord in the region.

At the end of WW II, the US denied the rest of the world what they -- for at least a couple hundred yrs -- took from China. From the European countries to Japan, the US denied all of them access to mainland China, thereby giving the Chinese people direct hands in their own affairs.

The US also enforced freedom of navigation throughout the world, giving countries access to each other, should they mutually elect to do so, in order to raise themselves out of economic poverty, should they chose to do so. For decades the system worked. When China finally realized the disaster that was the Marxist experiment, China's wealth came directly from the same freedom of navigation of the South China Sea that the US ensured and that everyone else exploited.

Now China want to take that freedom away from the other Asian countries based upon some flimsy interpretations of historical events ?

No...It is China who is sowing discord in the region.

You seriously believe everyone will buy this excuse (freedom of navigation)?
It is just another political BS used by various parties.

The real issue is not the freedom of navigation but the sovereign of particular area. Everyone is just holding and strengthening the area they currently hold.

sure, it is about freedom of navigation, what else? remember of the oil rig deployment to our waters last summer?
chinese idiots with mass of patrol vessels including warships established a cordon around the rig, that had a size of 10-20-30 miles: a no-go area for our people. if we don´t try to stop you, you will expand the size to probably 100 miles.

imagine: we can´t even enter our waters, 100 miles for an area.

Funny that Malaysia is meddling with Philippine local issue, specifically the local secessionist movement down south.

Discord sells weapons. Instability prompts fund managers looking for safe-havens
US is tricking everyone in the area into the trap by posing China as the threat for advancing its own agenda so America keeps on cooking up tensions in SCS. Some countries are glad to subscribe to the idea for their hidden ambitions and political gains at the expense of China's national interests.

China is at the sole receiving end of all the bullies

It think Chinese members should do what I do, just press the ignore button, your life quality will be much better. My ignore list is so long now.

All I see on this page is good news, and @Cossack25A1 pretty much the last Filipino member I haven't ignored, there's one or two more.

Now I'm happy on this forum.

If they tag me or quote me, I won't see it anyways.

Few Comments here:

1. China was left alone
Quite debatable actually, not least because effectively United States is still arming one side (Taiwan) in an ongoing civil war, but US for 20 years even refused to recognize the Communist Government across the straits. Not only this, the whole Tibetan cause was internationalized by the US, with covert military and financial support, and there was a long debate for years in US Academia, over the reasons United States "lost" China.
Though, yes US capitulated Japan, but the biggest reason China was let alone, atleast militarily was the presence of a central strong power in the form of Communists.

2. United States is perhaps the only country that is yet to ratify the United Nations Convention of Law of Seas, and has repeatedly used that as an excuse for restricting those freedoms. You might wanna look into Yinhe incident - Wikiwand

3. I don't think even China takes its territorial claim over South China Sea seriously. If you have look at Chinese diplomacy and negotiations, the way they negotiate that is, they first claim and demand the most extensive levels of demands. They then cut back and reach a middle path with countries. There are many many examples of these, like their border resolution with Kyrgystan. Even with India, while they claim Arunachal, even they know that they are not getting it. They have proposed a give-and-take solution before, wherein India and China were to almost recognize the defacto border.

4. Generally, though yes, even after many flaws in United States rules and principles of engagement, it has done a lot good in various fields.
