No third world country in the world right now is in a complete lock down, simply because they can't afford it. Canada is spending over $320 billion to compensate for the losses of wage workers, the UK is spending over £300 billion to compensate workers after shutting down business while Pakistan barely has $12-14 billion in its reserves thanks to IMF/China/Qatar. Only the rich elite in the country can survive the total economic shut down, but those daily wage workers aren’t as privileged as us who depend on their daily wages to put food on the table. More than 16 MILLION suffer from acute respiratory infection EVERY YEAR in Pakistan, children with weakened immune systems due to malnutrition are most vulnerable and comprise 25% of this number. 1% increase in poverty can kill thousands.

2. Why did Imran Khan decide to open the Chaman Pak-Afghan border?

The Chaman border is open one-way for Afghan trucks present in Pakistan, for exports. It is an entry from Pakistan to Afghanistan, but no one can enter the country from Afghanistan. No country in the world has shut its borders down for trade, in fact most of the European countries are still engaging in two-way trade.

First of all Shehbaz Sharif, while returning from abroad should be put in quarantine for 14 days, but here he is scoring political points. A good administrator leaves things in a good condition so for anyone succeeding him would not have trouble in managing things. Maryam Nawaz claimed in 2016 that PMLN will build 40 new hospitals by end of 2017, can someone please link me to the address of at least ONE.

As far as dengue is concerned, in 2012 a fake heart medicine at PIC Lahore took more than 100 lives while Messiah Sharif was personally saving everyone from dengue, al that was forgotten because PMLN paid good ad money to media houses, which they continue to do so. Dead bodies kept pilling all over the province while it was also reported that there was a corruption of over Rs. 1.75 billion in lieu of fake Dengue sprays all over Punjab. Oh and obviously Mr. Civilian Supremacy also asked Pak Army for help.

People calling for Shehbaz Sharif back in the government have a selective amnesia that they have forgotten the billions dollars spent on still not functional orange train in Lahore which could have been spent on creating hospitals.

It is absolutely disgusting that a two year old government is being blamed for the lack of medical facilities in the country, while there being a call for the old goons to get called back in the country.

Pakistan only had 600 ventilators in the past 30 years, and we all know what two parties basically ran the country for three decades. While Pakistan now has 1700 ventilators in two years of the new government.

If everyone doesn't get into media frenzy and actually see the ground realities they would understand the reason why country can not go into a TOTAL economic LOCKDOWN, har bar danday se baat nae manwani chahiye. PLEASE VOLUNTARILY STAY INSIDE. GOODBYE.

Sir daily wages wale wese he fariq bethe hein. Is se acha hy lockdown kr den

25% of Pakistan is under poverty line with no dedicated logistics to support the supply during lock down. A full lock down will start starvation in homes many cannot afford to stock up in lock down. A partial lock down is in best interest of the country. Locking down most hit cities and areas and running other cities to facilitate food chain and supply lines of daily commodities. Today after 12 am Karachi went on lock down and to sustain Karachi other cities need to be kept running.

This IS the time to ask for food aid from China over the Karakoram Highway, and through the ports of Karachi and Gwadar. It will take some of the burden off the nation, and in better times Pakistan can payback the Chinese, but now is the time to save lives.

China is not self sufficient in food production. You can ask China for money aid and have to get food from somewhere else. Money aid China provided was 34 million USD for coronavirus.

Just to put it in perspective, 300 packets of food distributed today to working class people who came to our circle (these were teachers, and lower income earners) who's kitchens were EMPTY. This was just in Rawalpindi, just imagine how many more are around Pakistan.

A national shut down will cripple Pakistan.

Maybe he feels he still has some faith left in Allah, unlike KSA.

Do we have land borders closed? i.e India, Afghanistan, Iran?

What is the status of the food supply in Pakistan? Would sending money to Pakistan help or hurt (by pushing food prices up) more people getting food?

would organizing food shipments to Karachi port be a better option for the overseas Pakistani communities that can afford to help? IMHO, This is a disaster similar to the 2010 floods and the 2005 earthquake, where the nation probably needs Billions of dollars of Aid to get through this, but it is a “silent disaster”

If all of you (the ones pushing for it) want a lock down so bad then be ready for an economic recession the likes of which no one in this country has ever seen. Dont cry then.

The Chinese GDP is expected to contract by 9 percent. US GDP has contracted by 2. 1 percent 1st quarter it is expected to contract by 10 percent in the second. These are nations will strong economies while ours is a weak economy already under strain which has barely started to improve will not be able to cope with the pressure of a lock down.

We will go into a minor recession even without a lock down. What all of you are demanding without even thinking could result in mass unemployment. Businesses will go bankrupt. How long are you gonna look down a month. The disease could still come back what you're gonna lock down again. Lock down will cause greater problems in the long run.

We as individuals need to take responsibility otherwise you are just delaying the inevitable. We need to increase our capacity for testing in mass and test and quarantine those effected. Get as many ventilators as we can. If they arnt available then make your own. Shut down all OPDs except Medicine and Surgery. Get private sector Health care setup on board at cost (this is not a time for profiteering). Tell people about IPC.

We all belong to a nation of good hoarders, religious bigots and incompetent Fools. I can guarantee that we wont be able to maintain a supply chain in case of lock down. What will the consequences of that. CMs of individual provinces can take these decisions because they wont have to deal with the consequences Capital will have to deal with consequences.

Would current raw food stocked in Pakistan at present not sufficient to feed the whole nation? For survival for a month or so.

And how much would it cost the government to Nationalise the full raw food chain for a few months to a year?

In recent years, Pakistan has produced more food than its population consumes and has become a major producer of wheat and rice. However, the poorest and most vulnerable people in Pakistan cannot afford a sufficient and nutritious diet despite the overall growth in food production. Approximately 60 percent of Pakistan’s population is facing food insecurity, and malnutrition is highly prevalent, according to the UN World Food Program (WFP).

Only 63.1 per cent of the country’s households are “food secure” despite the fact that Pakistan is self-sufficient in major staples. According to the Ministry of Health and Unicef’s National Nutritional Survey, 2018, Pakistan is ranked at 8th position in producing wheat, 10th in rice, 5th in sugarcane, and 4th in milk production.

Please see my last post I have explained the food insecurity in Pakistan.

Pakistan's problem is not food. The food chain areas are still mostly not hit by virus except Gujrat which only has 2 cases of Foreign return origin. This means if lock down happens in lahore food will be available. The problem is labor class they don't have money to stock up food for lock down and they will suffer.
