What's new

Why is DSCC removing 400,000 rickshaws without an alternative?

In India majority of the Rickshaws are now EVs and the EV Rickshaws have started getting mainstream in India some 10 years ago, although many parts of India still have those manual ones but I feel EV ones are better.

Bike rideshare already exists. These cannot replace rikshaws which can carry families and are safer.

This one can

We even still have this one outside Jakarta, particularly in West Sumatra

The ban timing is not right. They need to wait until Pandemic is over and there should be line of credit prepared to shift to Bajaj Drivers

They can use gas powered engine as well

We have been told by Bilal here that Bangladeshis only drive in Lamborghinis Rolls Royce's and Bentleys so I presume you would no longer need Rickshaws. :girl_wacko:

Not a dig at you but that buffoon.
To my astonishment, that @Billu Mia once claimed BD people usually drink tea costing Taka300 a cup. Many men many minds. I personally cannot afford Taka8.00 a cup.

They can be a delivery as well, but mostly they deliver person. Before Gojek become huge due to apps, we already have this but not under a company, just like rickshaw in India and Bangladesh, but use motorcycle instead.

BORAK SUPER SOLAR-ELECTRIC CAR HITS DHAKA STREETS
written by Community Writer | Community.Drprem.Com

borak super solar electric car

At the Renewable Energy Expo held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, a battery-run three-wheeler attracted everyone’s attention. The vehicle, dubbed as Borak Super, has solar panels attached to it to power the rechargeable battery up to 20 percent. The Bangladesh Solar Energy Society considers it be the ‘most energy efficient and environment friendly that has ever hit the Dhaka streets.’

Prof Dr Saiful Haque, secretary of Bangladesh Solar Energy Society, said…

It has a huge potential if it gets a little boost from the government. It is eco-friendly; it saves electricity and is cheap to run. Considering the status of energy and pollution, it is one of the most viable options.
The zero-emission vehicle efficiently runs 120 km at its highest speed of 40 km per hour. When sun does not shine, the green car normally requires an eight-hour recharge from a regular power outlet. Borak comes complete with an automatic gearbox and super-efficient batteries that could run for 18 months. The vehicle is priced at around BDT 120,000 ($1,730) each.

I rode 3-wheelers in my home town, all run by electric battery (3 batteries) made in China. But, I could not see the same in Dhaka. Now, as it is always, the Dhaka authorities are trying to remove Rickshaws without arranging alternative way of transport.

I hope, our great asset @Billu Mia does not come up with many stupid pictures to show us a rosy Dhaka transport system. He did so in a post in answer to a thread by @Homo Sapiens.
