Why Indian universities don't make it to world rankings

Start with changing the god damn mentality of looking towards the west would be very good start and truth be told English or your own language and sorry but Bollywood stupid dramas and films need to go. The way i see it do it the soviet union way remove all distractions and then make them focus on pure education and media should just be simple news and educational. You want fast track get ready to spend 1 third if not 2 third of national budget reduce class to 17 students, two teachers, 6 days a week 4 hours homework. start from here lolz

If you read the same news carefully it says that Indians wants to become one... not they are one. There is a big difference between the two. And working towards becoming one is a good thing.

Exactly! we (China = rather casually) and the rest of world who are interested are also looking at how wide the gap of "want" and "become" in india! And how realistic the target!

Sure we see the difference. How wide... how long ..it doesn't matter. What matter is the aim. And we aim to develop ourselves. No one can predict future. So no one know when we will reach the target. What we know is we will keep our selves busy to develop with time and we don't care what other thinks about us.

I believe in "Survival of the fittest" theory. and In todays world bollywood is growing and even crossing language barrier. The things which you call a distraction is called entertainment industry, which provide jobs for lots of indian. and if somebody wants to study 6 days a week and do 4 hours homework they can still do because its a free country. IT all depends upon talents inside oneself.

Its not just black& white. bribes and corruption are due to common indian. It will take generation to change the attitude. A progressive society needs all kind of talents. It need as much doctor and enginner as entertainer and sevice provider. You may think the bollywood dancing make people sleepy. But that is a good thing because of this sleep the people get relaxed & recharge to start their next day. So If you try to see the big picture then all of them are interconnected. And also god does not make all people equal. Some are good in studies, some are good in arts. A country grows when its people develops, doesn't matter in which field. But being a big country, India needs and can support talents in all the fields.

Just don't care about us. We are not touching you with stick or so. We are not obsessed with you. We see China developing themselves and also wants ourselves to develop. we consider you something like a role model and follow it. There is no competition, just want to improve oureselves.

Somebody may be dumb in studies but also depends how you teach them if you put hundred percent into them and 6 days reduce class size two teachers guarantee they will succeed. Plus Asian families talk very loud never allow you to revise at home.

Thats the indian (perhaps pakistani also?) way. The parents who can afford makes sure that their kid gets private tution and extra pressure.

I have seen in Europe that parents don't force their kids to mug up. In germany, A kid of 5-6 years can-not even write or recite alphabets and numbers. In india a kid of 3 will do it. But when the same kid grows up to 16-18 to be ready to choose a professional career, India kid will do what their parents do. A german kid will perhaps take a break. Will try different field, say one year engineering, one year law, or one year medical till he is sure what he wants to be. and once he finds his desire profession. he studies it and becomes master in the profession. He excel in field. Contrary a indian kid might be a successfull engineer and a doctot, but he will not rise upto the job.

So if you wear a wrong size shoes, it will hurt in a long term. So even producing graduates in thousands per year, India still lacks quality graduates and even though germany/west produces few graduates they are the quality in their field.

Yes it true not too much pressure that why i think it good to allow them to have some physical activities rather then having them walk around doing nothing like gymnastics good for body and blood flow and something like boxing.Give them some space and freedom.

We need to spend more money on improving infrastructure of our educational institutions. I was a student at a top IIT and have spent a summer at IISc. There is no lack of talent in India, we have some of the best students in those universities, as good as anybody in the world, but have to say that there are at least 100 Universities in the US with better infrastructure than the top schools in India.
